    Baretta

Yes, it will feel like you're trying to start a car in gear. Nearly everything spins in the outdrive even in neutral. You'll be pulling that drive sooner or later; pull it now and see if the engine turns over easier

3.0 Mercruiser seems to hang or seize when starting

And your wife's nail file, right? 😃 I guess I still would call that the "timing" part of the puzzle. If he's getting a spark though it should be close enough to start. When I think bad points I'm thinking either coated or gap far enough off to not spark.

    Alpha 1 Gen 1 - Teardown - Need Advice

That seal keeps water out of the drive shaft area. Drive shaft will rust over time but won't lose lube. Just replacing the lower seal is easy, doesn't require removing the input shaft. Upper is more work The o-ring would get caught in that lower seal and let water in. That bushing is a pita...

3.0 Mercruiser seems to hang or seize when starting

How does strong spark at the plugs not rule out the points? Need to check timing, compression, plug wire order, make sure you're getting fuel down the carb throat. Op changed too many variables at once on a non starting engine, so now you don't know whether one of your new parts is bad/not...

    Alpha 1 Gen 1 - Teardown - Need Advice

Agreed. Those seals need replaced. Water gets in the cavity, rusts and pits shaft. Then you have a lot more work. Also hope you replaced that lower pump base as well as the impeller. And for sure pressure test the drive.

95 4.3lx alpha one mercruiser cooling system question

Too lazy to look ATM but 95 doesn't have check balls does it?

Manual Bilge Pump Switch Not Working When Auto Float Wire Connected

I can't find a shoreline with integrated float switch (although just saw that you purchased it, so should come with instructions and wiring diagram, no?) Give a link to the wiring diagram or directions. Does your helm switch just have the pump wire on one side and 12v on the other? Switched or no?

Manual Bilge Pump Switch Not Working When Auto Float Wire Connected

I think you need a 3 way switch. Either circuit can be closed, but not both. Any idea what pump you have?

    1993 4.3 engine oil type

Interesting that synthetics are specifically not recommended. Wonder why? IIRC the old merc oils were synthetic instead of the current blend

And you run the risk of frying your PCM if that spark doesn't jump...

    Unknown Short Circuit

If the diode is shorted closed, current flows backward through the op switch into the ignition (purple wire), so engine won't turn off when the ignition switch is turned off. Starter is engaged through the yellow/red wire, not anything on this circuit. If shorted open no current flows to the tks...

This is not the OPs problem.

    Fuel capacity

Plenty on the site about that if you search for it. If I could get it for the same price as a 3.0L I would, and would have to get a $1-2k discount over a similar 4.3. While the parts are harder to find and more expensive, you only need half as many as a vee engine. You for sure need to be...

    Need help with plugs selection

I've been using these since my ngks rusted to crap after one season and one broke trying to remove. Any theoretical/magical performance gains offset by being able to remove the damn things.

    Unknown Short Circuit

No it isn't. Again, disconnect temp switch. Test it directly. Hopefully you're making sure there's no power in the circuit you're testing for continuity. Incorrect. Alternator and coil have nothing to do with this circuit, as mentioned. Op switch doesn't work that way, it's a mechanical...

    Unknown Short Circuit

@muc right, temp switch would need to be bad (closed when cold) for a short in p/y to blow that fuse.
  17. nola mike

    Unknown Short Circuit

A diode failure shouldn't blow the fuse or prevent cold starting either way though, right? P/y doesn't become purple. It branches at the oil press switch. When you have oil pressure the purple feeds The p/y wire. I don't see how a short in the p/y would cause that fuse to blow unless the temp...

    Started, died and wont restart

You might also be able to get to the tank through the vent line. looks like the starting system is separate from the PCM, so pulling the fuse to the PCM should disable the ignition and let you crank.
