    Help and clarification

The 470's first year was '76. So who knows what you have in there. Post some pics Edit: rereading... Do you have a 4 or 6 cyl? Don't think there was a 3.7l 6.

87 Mercruiser 205 V6 losing power past half throttle

Yeah, pour the contents into a clear container to see what you get. All of those stores rent tools, some you wouldn't think of. I've rented flaring tools, bearing drivers, balance installers, drum brake tools (!) etc. AutoZone and advance don't have a time limit on how long you can keep them.

I've been thinking about installing a momentary switch at the helm to activate the FP relay. Obviously won't work with a mechanical pump...

Swap a complete 1988 OMC 4.3 out and put a complete 5.7 Mercruiser I/0 complete with wiring harness in??

Same width, you'll need some extra room up front. Motor mount locations are different. Cut out is the same. You'll need a *complete* engine package, controls, wiring, exhaust, etc.

Ford 302 alternator proper amp size

A 1 wire can likely be used as well, though don't know your wiring specifics. @Scott Danforth , I assume the older wiring has all the helm power through the ammeter, which can't handle the increased current? I don't have a schematic...

Trying to reprop, but how can I tell if my engine gets to WOT?

Also, swapping the drive shouldn't have affected your throttle at all.
