    Mystery tools...any help??

Inherited these. Have no idea what they do. I think the are automotive. Anyone know? The grey one has a carbide grit wheel that spins with the handle and two screws on the back. The black one is some sort of clamp?

Test running 270 crusader inboard dry

I feel pretty dumb for asking this...could I run a pair of 1986 crusader 270 (350) inboards with V drives for even a few seconds out of water to make sure they run? And what about test shifting? Boat is on blocks in a heated warehouse and there is no way to get water to it. I know on mercruisers...

    Quick shift cable/interrupt questions...

Is the shift interrupt system supposed to work while the engine is running on muffs? Or only when there is a load at the prop ( IE: actually in water )?

Quick question on gimbal bearing pull

Has anyone pulled a gimbal bearing using a threaded rod type puller ( like 45AUTO's ), WITH the bellhousing still on? In all the pics, they put the plate across the gimbal ring. I have a piece of 4"X12" 3/8 steel plate that I'd like to place between the drive studs ( running across the whole...

    Experience trailering LARGE boats?

Looking to take the next step up this spring on the big lake. Have looked a few tempting 27' and 30' sea rays (10 and 11.6ft beams, respectively ), on triple axle bunk trailers. I know there is a few on this site who trailer boats of this size, and was looking for some insights as to how much...

    Edmund Fitzgerald

Sank 36 years ago today. Serves as a grim reminder that the great lakes can get as mean as anything out there. Everyone please keep the crew and family in your thoughts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgI8bta-7aw&feature=related

Something tells me this isnt a factory install...

If my eyes don't deceive me, it's a Honda portable gen set, wrapped in foam, in a plastic tote, in the bilge, next to batteries, with some sort of ill conceived vent system. On a Sea Ray 270 on eBay. Roasted Sundancer, anyone?:facepalm::facepalm:

Who makes this downrigger pedestal? CHALLENGE TIME!

Long shot, I know, but does anyone have these EXACT ones on their boat? Or at least know who makes them? My boat came with the bases for these mounted on the boat, and I ended up letting the previous owner keep the actual pedestals ( stupidly ). SO rather than have to go through the trouble of...

    Lugnuts

Check the tightness of them periodically! For the love of god! She was complaining of a clunk in reverse...WELL, didn't take long to see that all 5 of the lugnuts on one wheel were not even hand tight! The holes in the wheel were elongated, and the studs half worn through! How much longer until...

    Stripping old stain from teak?

Previous owner used, from what I can ascertain, Minwax Polyshades, or a similar 2 in 1 stain on a good majority of the teak on my Sea Ray. Most of it has held up good, and I strongly prefer it to the old bleaching and oiling every three months or so!!! However, the grab handles on top of the...

    Mercruiser varible pitch prop

I understand the theory and benefits of a variable pitch prop, I was just unaware that they made them at some point in time for mercs. I just came across this one on a boat for sale and was wondering who manufactured it, and how it works. Seems to have a strange hub assembly. Anyone have one of...

Gas in oil? But runs great...

Hello. I have an 1986 Sea Ray with a Merc 230 ( 305 chevy, quadrajet ). The past three trips with it, I noticed the oil level creeping up very very slightly on the dipstick when I would check before the trip. It was so slight, I thought either temperature change, or condensation may be at fault...

    Need some opinions on windows!!!

WHAT WOULD YOU DO??? 3 out of the 4 porthole window trim pieces on my sea ray are cracked, and all of them are yellowed and dirty looking. I've priced new ones at 45.00 a piece which is going to be out of my range for the time being. So for giggles I just removed them. And it doesnt look bad in...

    Has anyone sucessfully...broken bolts

Anyone ever remove broken off bolts from the top cover assembly on a merc? Whilst changing my yoke seal I decided to remove the top cover and inspect gears, etc, first. I soaked the the bolts in PB blaster, and heated them up, knowing they were corroded. The first two came out clean. The last...

New to me 1986 Sea Ray 210CC

Hey all, I decided to break down, spend a bit, and get a boat I really want, rather than struggle with the nearly daily failures of my 21ft Reinell cabin cruiser! So after some thinking I brought home this sea ray 210 cuddy cabin. And I'm in love! Its a 305, alpha one merc...runs amazing...

Changed drive bellows and shift cable, no forward

Hello, as some of you may remember, I had some troubles with leaking drive bellows on my '73 888. I decided to do it right, and replaced the lower shift cable with the new style OEM mercruiser cable while I was at it. Got everything back together with basically no struggle, adjusted the cable...
