    tach reading? 1999 Mercury 40

    Just got this boat and the tach reads around 750rpm at idle which is ok but at full throttle only 3200rpm or so. Seat of the pants and motor sound says this is wrong. Any help on where to start looking for the problem would be appreciated. :rolleyes:

    Got a prop off my 1999 Merc. 40hp, 3 cylinder #'s on housing worn but appear to be;48 73144 A 40 17<br />What do I got?(diameter and pitch). It has 13 splines and am looking for a replacement. Any recommendations? Motors, I know, props eeehh,a little shaky. Thanks in advance! :D

    Mercury letters identification

    Mercury marine site was of no help but I bet someone on this board knows. Whats the letters E,L,P,T,O,H,M stand for after the HP rating(ie;50ELPTO)? E is electric start. Whats the others? Thanks in advance...

    New(used )boat checks

    A while back I read a post describing an easy method to detect amount of alcohol in gas. Does anyone know this experiment? I've been wanting to find out which brand of gas to use. :D

    Force 75hp stalls at idle

    My 1996, will lose its prime( bulb goes soft) when running at idle, no problem when rpms are up. Tank, lines, filter all new and tight. Fuel pump rebuild time? Suggestions?

    Replacement fuel tank...

    Replaced my fuel tank with a 12 gal. Tempo plastic tank. My question is: Tempo recommended 3% clearance all around(10"x10"x32") however I only had 1/8"-1/4" on sides and plenty(5") of room on top. It is located in a vented enclosure. Is this going to work?

    1996 Force 75hp, erratic tach problem

    Ok , so I'm cruising along at whatever rpm and Wham! to tach decides to peg. Quite unnerving. A slight thump on the tachs face plate and it drops back to correct rpms. All the connections at the tach seem secure. Any ideas???

    permant fuel tank filler hose with 90 degree bend?

    erratic tach?

    Nearing Halloween ,I believe a goblin has crawled into my tachometer. For some reason, it will peg the tach, then drop back to running rpms even though the motor noise remains constant. Any ideas? :rolleyes:

    A little feedback.. I posted a ? concerning this problem and believe I've retified it by re-jetting the carb. to a slightly smaller size main jet. The motor would run at high rpm then stall at idle due to oily black plugs. With the smaller jet, It runs cleanly with a nice chocolate brown color...
