Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Yes, thank you. I found that he lower helm cable was sticking and slowing it down. All good now with pretty responsive free rev in neutral. Will try to check vaccum at WOT

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Good point. So should I read that as: smaller carb equals smaller prop pitch?

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Ok, I am going to look for another prop to try. I hesitate as it seems my prop 15 x 17P was the prop sold with this boat and engine when new.

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

I want to redefine my answer on the free rev. It seems like it takes time to get up to the higher revs and I hesitate to run it for too long at high revs in neutral. My previous boat would get the high revs almost instantly. This one takes like 5 secs. Is that an issue?

I just put in a new distributor thinking that was the issue and it did not solve it. Yes, I get the bounce on the rotor.

How much more power will I get by going from a 600 cfm to 750 cfm carb? Will I really notice this difference?

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

I appreciate the love you guys have for the technical side, but I am just hoping to get my old engine working better without losing my shirt. I would rather not spend the money if there is some doubt that it would really make a difference for me....

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

So a new carb is $600 plus the setup. Would that investment in a 750 vs a 600 give me that much more help out of the hole?

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Hi guys, to update, I put a new distributor from sierra and set the proper timing. Started right up. On sea trail it is slightly better but still does not get on a plane. What other issue could I have?. I have done everything as indcated in the first post. I might try just removing the air...

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Thanks. Just tried that and they are no longer supporting that. I guess it is a new distribbutor, or lots of trial and error with springs.

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Thanks for the info! Yes, the marine holly. The shift assist was replaced last summer with new by professional mechanics. The Mallory electronic breakerless ignition distributor YH that I have is wired directly to the coil and ground which is as per the instructions. Not sure if the shift assist...

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

Hi, Hi, I have an 89 OMC 460 and Cobra outdrive. Cannot get on a plane. Engine struggles at WOT but does not backfire. I can go 8 knots at 1900 rpm all day. In last year, engine has new cylinder heads, new manifolds and risers, new plugs, new plug wires, and leg was just serviced month ago with...

Intermittent rattle from top of outdrive at low rpm

Thank you for the reponse. I figured out it was the power steering. The oil cooler had failed and the fluid was going out with the raw water. The air bubbles were clicking the rack but it sounded like it came from the drive.
