Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

I went ahead and coated the outside surface of the seal with sealer. Seems to be working well, as i didn't get any oil pouring out the weep hole! Funny enough when I pulled the drive, I found two plates at the bottom of the exhaust hole of the bell housing. I believe they're remnants of the...

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

Do you think I should put the oil seal in place with gasket sealer or oiled sides? The manual states to lightly oil the bore.

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

I bought kit 26-88397A1. It comes with one double lip seal. Is that all I need? I saw there’s also a larger diameter seal, but I don’t see one in my gear case. This kit comes with a large one, but I don’t know where it goes?

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

Well, I was in denial, but turned out it was the upper drive seal and it looks like there was a seal out of place. Looks chewed up.

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

Well I think I discovered my issue. I found an additional seal on the drive shaft below the carrier seal. I’m assuming that’s not correct? This would have prevented the carrier seal from going all the way down?

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

Splines are dry, but shaft was wet to about right at base of splines and on top of pump housing all wet with oil. Also from what I can tell, it was dry around the quad ring, so I think that seal was working correctly.

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

tried it again, this time with aviation gasket sealer on the quad ring. Happened again. One thing to note, I still had the reservoir cap on, but vent hole plug was out to vent. Does it matter if that cap was on though it was venting? I noticed after dropping again the shift seal was dry but the...

Lower unit oil leak through weep hole after impeller replacement

Hi All, I recently replaced the water pump on my Alpha one, Gen 2 drive (2002 year). I also replaced the quad ring seal. After I got the lower unit back together, I went to refill the lower unit and it started puking out of the weep hole. After I dropped the lower unit again, I noticed the quad...

Troubles with Contact Cement on Spar Varnish

Hi All, I’m redoing a floor using contact cement on BCX coated with Spar Varnish on Nautolex Interwoven Cool. I’ve done this many times with Shark Gray nautolex. This time around I’m having issues. The main issue is with the contact cement dissolving the spar. I usually try to do a light coat...

1991 Nissan 90 HP No Power

Which red and red/white wire? It looks like I'm just missing wires to the tachometer/gauges? I'll take a couple pics of my connections when I get home later.

1991 Nissan 90 HP No Power

Hi All, I recently picked up a 1991 Nissan 90 HP. Great condition, but control box needed new ignition switch. I replaced that, got everything connected, but I'm getting no juice to the motor. No trim, starter wont crank, and no startup audible sound. Seems like I'm missing a cable connection...

Help with Johnson 150 Pinion Bearing Removal

I checked both carriers and they look identical. I went ahead and put new o-ring on and slathered it with gasket maker. Put it back on and still leaking. I can see where it’s weeping and it almost looks elliptical. Does this mean the case is indeed warped or am I not pressing it in correctly...

Help with Johnson 150 Pinion Bearing Removal

I think I've figure out my issues, so the motor itself is a 1992, but somehwere down the line someone put a 1995 lower unit on it. After looking at both diagrams, the bearing carrier looks slightly different between years. One looks slighlty longer. I know I installed OMC #434400 (1992) and it...

Mystery recirc line on 1992 Evinrude intruder 150

Anyone know where this recirc line at the top of crankcase connects to? It goes to a tee. I can’t remember where it went when I rebuilt carbs. Oddly I have another 150 HP Evinrude that doesn’t have it.

Help with Johnson 150 Pinion Bearing Removal

Welp, ran it on the muffs the other day and ran great. A few days later I’ve now come to find what looks like the new seal around the carrier assembly is leaking. Did I use wrong one? The kit came with a bunch and I mistakenly threw away the old one. I cross checked with the part number online...

Help with Johnson 150 Pinion Bearing Removal

Yep, I replaced pinion roller bearing, all thrust bearings, and roller bearings in the bearing carrier. I actually went ahead and bought the whole carrier assembly with bearings and seals already in it, as it was a good deal. Just seems like towards the front end of the housing there's rubbing...

Help with Johnson 150 Pinion Bearing Removal

Sorry for delay, finally got a new gear set, with new lower driveshaft. Got it shimmed with the OMC tool. Got everything back together, but when I turn the prop shaft by hand, it sounds like something’s rubbing inside the gear case. Is there a break-in period? Would prop shaft be bent?

Help with aligning dual console windshield.

Hi All, I’m rebuilding a 1995 Crestliner Phantom 196 and I’m having issues with getting my consoles aligned so that the windshield can close. When I got the boat the consoles were rotted so I couldn’t get exact measurements. I used what I had though for an outline and now I can’t get the...
