Carb kit

I have picked up a used Holley 4bbl to replace the 2bbl on top of my Mercruiser/Ford 302, but I need to rebuild it. I can order the Sierra kit for this carb, but I'm wondering if Sierra does the same thing with this kit that they did with my Rochester 2GC. When I purchased the kit for it, it...

    Jet boats

When I started playing with my old Glastrons, looking theough the old catalogs, it looks like jjets used to be very popular. I'm not talking the 120hp sport jets, I'm talking big block V8's and Berkleys/jacuzzi's. Looks like they started dying out in the late 70's. Was it the gas crunch that...

    2bbl to 4bbl carb/intake adapter

Now that I have a 4bbl carb on the way to use on my 888/302, I may need to consider mounting it on the 2bbl manifold temporarily for a number of reasons. I'm looking at one of these:

...

    Pole buildings

Anyone here experienced at building/designing polel buildings? I need to build a roughly 30-36'x 28-30' economical structure that I can pour a floor and add walls/siding/doors later, yet have it fit into my neighborhood with a shinhled roof and siding. The web abounds with various plans, but...

    Hydro-Mech Lower Unit ID questions

Ok, I'll give this its own post.

Is there an easy way to tell a Hydro-Mechanical ('73-'77 v4 except '77 135/140) from a later mechanical case visually? I have a line on a couple possible used lowers, but the owner isn't sure what year they came from.

I know the...

Question for those with tandem axles

Earlier this year I tossed my old 3500lb single axle trailer(2400lb dry boat, more like 3200 loaded) with electric brakes for a tandem axle that I restored (camacity 6000lbs). Since it was a complete resto of the trailer, I replaced everything except the axles and frame (coupler, springs, all...

    Lower unit adaptation?

I have a '76 85hp V4 that is likely in need ofa lower unit. This is one of the hydro-shift units. These units seem to be hard to find used. Is there any way to adapt a newer mechanical shift unit to it? Seems like '78 and newer units are dime/dozen.

    Commute to work

I've been bummed lately about the commute to work from our new house. From our old house, I drome 21 miles and it took 40 minutes or so. From our new house, the commute is 27 miles and takes 50 minutes each way. If i take the interstate, it is 31 miles and takes anywhere from 35 min to 75...

Scored a new carb for my 302, now a question

By some luck, i scored the carb I have been looking for the last couple years. I have a mildly built 302 Mercruiser 888 with the factory 2bbl Rochester. The carb i have purchased is a 450 or 600 cfm Ford labeled Holley 4160 marine from a 1973 Mercruiser 225 which was a 302. Outside the...

    Float height for 888

Anyone know the proper float height for a 1976 Mercruiser 888 w/ rochester 2bbl? I rebuilt it this spring with a new needle assembly et. al. and it is running a bit rich. Definetly rich at idle, but also seems fat under throttle and leaves much suit on the transom. Wasn't as bad befopre rebuild.

    Stumped on steering

After replacing the Gimbal Ring on my #1R Mercruiser, the steering is much better. There is still a bit of play though and I have isolated it. Before installing the ring, i also installed a new Teleflex NFB Rack steering helm and cable. The cable is tight on the steering tube, but there is a...

Another Merc #1 Gimbal ring replacement question

Ok. I hot the blasted lower swivel pin out using seafoam and lots of propane heat. I also got the equally fun nut off the top of the upper swivel shaft. When I got all the pieces loose, I reassembled them to see where the play was. I know the play is in the ring for playing with it on the...

    Mercruiser #1 lower swivel pin

I'm replacing the Gimbal ring on my '76 888 drive and have hit a snag getting the lower swivel pin out. The instructions say to pull the cotter pin and drive the swivel shaft out. I've removed the pin, but the shaft won't move. Have I missed something? The bottom of the pin seems to be...

    Mercruiser steering play

My 888 #1 drive seems to have significant side/side play in the steering. This is a non-power steering V8, 1976 vintage. If I measure the play it probably allows the drive to swing 1.5" to either side if the drive is centered and tilted up. As far as I can tell, the play is from the pivot bolt...
