    How big, heavy, is this boat? Bunk trailer? You should be able to winch it forward. The only problem I see is that the strap is pulling slightly downward. Try raising the winch post if you can, so the strap is level, or pulling the hull slightly upward.

    Roads aren’t too bad around here, but I do 100-200 miles of washboard gravel in Canada every year. 15 mph would make sense, and 40 mph will bounce you into the ditch.

    I also kept the one with the smaller splash well For An extra 21” of useable space, in an 18 foot boat. Allowed me to have 4 fishing in it instead of just 3. Also allows me to easily operate the tiller kicker motor.

    Are you referring to the distance, front to back?, or the distance top to bottom? One of my Mariners splash well measures 32" from transom forward. The other one is a year newer and measures only 11" from transom forward.

    The straight flat surface of your boat will be pushing against a flat board. Board wont sag in the middle, or on either end past the bracket.. You are good. The bunk brackets on my trailer are 8'apart.

    That would be 1/2”. If you aren’t doing a restoration, and willing to modify a bit , go with 5/8”.
