Should I pull heads for inspection, 5.7 liter

If saltwater boat and not antifreeze cooled, replace engine. My guess is rings are weak. Maybe valve seals are leaking oil into chamber?

Mercruiser 165's First Engine Align, Having Trouble

Was the rebuild 100% parallel? Correct thickness? I assume you didn't replace outer skin but rebuilt from inside????

    Salt water leak

Someone bumped the y pipe connection. Y pipe bolts to internal housing. You will have to pull motor. This is not uncommon.

    Carb Needle condition / function

For peace of mind and safety concerns, I'd replace the carb. Especially, if boat has been consistently used in saltwater, I'd replace it. Condensation is a nightmare for boaters.

Alpha one gen II leaking water near hydraulic hoses

Having totally replaced a twin MC transom and twin partial transom, I can state that it will be a job, if you have the proper tools!!! If you don't have tools, drag boat to a scrap yard. If you saltwater fish, you should be able to sell for scrap or another fisherman will tow it offshore to make...

If that is salt water exposed, good luck finding a competent welder to rebuild it. The salt really f-up aluminum. Remember, this pipe can sink you!

going to buy a used mercruiser

If salt water used motor, walk away! Also check boat for rot. I'd be more concern with that potential. You might be sinking too much money into yo hole.

Bone headed move - put the plug in with 3M 4200

Drill or tap, depending on threads. If just a rubber plug, drill baby drill. My plug is pipe thread. TAPS ARE CHEAP.

    Replacing transom foam seal

I'd also drill a few 1/4" holes around near transom assembly (inside) and near drain. Pray no rot, crap or water comes out. If so, now would be time to replace transom. You can put 5200 back in holes.

    Rusty u joints bravo 3

If you have all bellows off, check for excessive corrosion around lips. Rainwater or sea spray may be getting past hatch lip and dripping down on shaft and getting past internal transom seal. I have had that happen to me.

    Removing transom bolts Gen 2

Run tap through to clean internal threads. I purchased new bolt/studs and coated as best as I could. After assembling, coat lock nuts or use ss lock nuts. I don't plan on rebuilding another I/O transom!!!!

    Replacing transom foam seal

Make sure transom is not rotten!!!!! I added 5200 to help seal and also to hold seal in place as I installed assembly onto boat. I also added plumber's foam inside to the lower cavity where trim cables pass. It will be a real pain to replace cables, if needed, but until you have rebuilt a...

    Single point drain

I'd ditch the blue plastic crap and replace with 2 brass or SS. My ss ones came with o-rings. Most Chevy V8s have block side drains, usually a brass pipe threaded plug (one each side ). Mine have drain cocks but are very difficult to access. Yours will be too. However if you drain and go back...
