    Been a little cold.

Many folks leave their outboard tilted up over the winter, see lots of them around here in NW Ohio.

    Been a little cold.

And the news claims this cold spell is caused by global warming ! The earth warming up makes us colder ! Kinda like the new math I guess...... Nothing new for me as we are now seeing what winters were like when I was a kid.....The last decade has caused mother nature to go soft on us, but now...

1989 70hp Yamaha cooling system flush

Only takes less than a minute to disintegrate an impeller like that. Lots of flushing is the best that I can recommend for your motor. Use both air and water for best results and look for any restrictions from water flow. Mabey someone with more experience on this motor will chime in...

    1977 Johnson shift/throttle control box

Good luck....not many folks collect and properly store stuff anymore. Today's generation have become a dissposible group of people that don't repair anything anymore. Finding one in good working order with control cables might be scarce. Not sure what you need is old enough for the antique...

    When boating, always ___________________

If your going fast enough to get thrown out, your driving way beyond your capability or way to fast ! It amazes me how hard we try to fix stupidity, never gonna happen no matter what devices we add on. All these "safety" devices cost money and the not so brite find ways around them anyway...

    Kicker Motor

Guess I am old school, having that extra motor to get you back is a safety measure in my brain. Having a small boat, not interested in having extra weight hanging on the transom. Based on Mercury specs, my 1992 two stroke motor uses approx 1-1.5 gallons per hour more fuel per hour than a new 4...

Wot onna 30hp johnson on the trailer

Dangerous for one, and motor will not run properly due to drag from lack of water flowing around the lower unit as it should. I would never try that !

    Kicker Motor

Bad fuel, (water in gas) is the most popular issue with fuel. Had it all the time about 10 years back from all the major fuel stations. Local farmers created a co-op fuel station for all the locals. Never gave had a fuel problem since. However, those that still use the popular stations still...

    Kicker Motor

Yep, a little 2.2 hp Merc, made by Tohotso. Great little motor. Always starts on 2-3 pull, even after sitting all winter. Fast idle (1/3 throttle) gets about 2 mph for trolling, just enough rpm to eliminate any vibration.

    Kicker Motor

My little kicker runs about 8 hrs ( all day) on a gallon of gas. Plenty of places for a one gallon fuel can. Better than the added weight and expense of a new four stroke, at least for me.

    Kicker Motor

What about using a trolling motor mount that raises and lowers ? Used one for years on my 22' Islander with just a standard long shaft. When raised the entire lower unit was out of the water, flip a lever and it dropped into trolling pisition, locked into straight position, could easily steer...

    New project

Global warming must be over, around here, we are expecting the coldest air we have had in decades, near -30 degrees. We haven't saw this long of a continuous stretch of below freezing temps in two decades. We are breaking cold temps set back more than 50 years according to weather folks...

They make some powerful electric trolling motors nowadays and with the addition if lifepo4 batteries, you can have lengthy running times. The only real drawback is $$$$. They are not cheap..

    90 Mercury 40HP motor

I have a 1992 version of that motor and love it. Been one of the best running motors I have ever owned. Whether your's is worth putting money into it, is your call, but ....from all that I researched before buying mine, they were great, reliable motors. Smooth idle, so slow you can hear each...

    Battery cable

I have n ever I look at a used boat and motor, I have always looked closely at the wiring, any sign of corrosion was cause for a deeper dive. Bought a few with the plan to rewire everyrhing, but usually look for ready to run stuff. My 1992 has original wiring with the exception of a few add...
