    mid 1990s mercury 75 problems

Sounds like a failing ignition circuit component, bad ground or loose wire. Get a manual and methodically check everything on the circuit

3.0 mercruiser ran for 5 min good. Then Just died?

#2 "this should be sufficient for starting the engine" Okay and it is sufficient, as you can start your engine. Now you need to adjust the idle mixture so it stays running using a tachometer. With engine running, slowly turn idle mix screw clockwise til rpms (on tach) begin to drop due to a too...

3.0 mercruiser ran for 5 min good. Then Just died?

Are you confident that you have idle mix set correctly? Set idle mix correctly first, then use idle speed screw to lower rpms to spec. If you cannot get rpms low enough you may need to adjust throttle linkage. I suspect fuel issue like others have said. I would start diagnosing by testing fuel...

    Start/run issues with the m25c3 tohatsu 25 2 stroke

    1. Never worked on a tohatsu so I cant tell you for sure where to start. I would start at one turn out, if it won't start then try 2 turns out and so on. Once you get the thing running you can tune it like you would any other carb. If you want instructions just ask. 2. If you have a damaged...

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

I'm amazed... the same guy who owns that vintage multimeter also owns a video camera to inspect the inside of his cylinders. LOL

What did you mean by this? I understood the rest, glad you observed some arcing to ground and hopefully the new coils fix the issue. Just trying to understand what "points" you checked on your outboard and how ya checked em Thanks

    Bayliner Capri Dashboard problems

Someone brought me a Bayliner Capri to look at I believe it's 19' .. texted them to find out what year but I don't know at this point. Dashboard lights up but none of the gauges are working. I didn't spend much time looking at it.. couldn't access the dash from underneath and it wasn't obvious...

    3.0 mercruiser i/o

No. Because everytime you shut off the fuel valve, the fuel pump is running and sucking on a vacuum and putting a strain on your pump. A primer bulb wouldn't do anything to stop the damage that occurs when youre shutting down the engine by shutting off fuel.

3.0 mercruiser ran for 5 min good. Then Just died?

Do you know what your doing when you say you are setting the idle mixture screw? Like are you confident you have it adjusted correctly or do you want instructions?

40hp Jet idles and runs but can't get rpms up

I just remembered another test you could do. Cylinder drop test. With the engine running use insulated pliers to remove one spark plug wire. Rpms should drop but engine should continue to run. Shut it down, put the spark plug wire back on the plug, then start the engine again and pull the plug...

40hp Jet idles and runs but can't get rpms up

Sounds to me like your not running on all cylinders. I would try reading the plugs if you've got an eye for that to see if you've got a dead cylinder. Or use a spark tester and see if all cylinders are getting strong consistent spark (use an adjustable spark tester and see if spark can jump...

OMC loses power... fuel cut / rev limit problem?

"before"? Rebuild carb before testing the engine on a portable tank? Just my humble opinion as a shade tree mechanic but I always keep a spare fuel tank around for diagnostic purposes. Takes no time or money to try a different tank. Rebuilding a carb is a pain in the ass and often not needed

1987 Johnson 140 VRO stalls when i put in gear in the water

Water in fuel can cause this. I'd start by siphoning some gas out the tank and inspecting it in a clear glass jar. If fuel is good we can move onto other possibilities

    1979 Mercury 80 worth it?

I used to make a hobby out of buying non-running outboards and fixing em and then selling. If you've got the time and energy to work on it and it's got good compression then go for it. For me, when making a purchase I would always test the compression myself.. if the numbers were good I'd buy...
