Same here, I posted similar pix.

    Been a little cold.

It would help if I/Os had full closed cooling as standard. The issue is Merc’s attempt to make draining easier doesn’t solve the problem on raw water cooled engines because the east drain systems eventually clog. The manifold drains usually aren’t hard to get at but the block drains on any of...

Boat cover for FourWinns Sundowner to use when towing

My canvas guy was an older guy who worked out of his house here in Long Island, really nice guy I'd bring him my mooring covers every few years and he would not take any money for re-sewing the seams, so I'd bring him bags of Dunkin Donuts coffee which he loved. He made the cover for me in 2003...

    Been a little cold.

Years back I saw 2 guys in a small fishing boat, the ice wasn't thick like this, one guy on the bow was breaking the ice and the other was gunning the outboard! and they made it out to the bay from the location in my pix.

    Been a little cold.

Guess these guys shoulda pulled their boats…they are commercial fishermen from what I’ve seen, the harbor hasn’t frozen like this in at least 10 years.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

With portable generators they depend on residual magnetism to make AC power. So it’s best to run them with a load in them so that the magnetism doesn’t dissipate. You can re-magnetize it using a drill, look on James Condons you tube channel for the procedure on how to do that. I run ours once a...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

So far today I did it 3x and I’d say we got more than a foot, prob like 18”. I have a single stage Toro so you can’t wait till that much snow is done, you have to do it in stages but the single is nice because it cleans down to the pavement.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

We’re getting the same forecast as Ted….just went out and took it down a bit, was about 4” and will do it again before nightfall… it’s not supposed to quit till Monday PM….

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

It's times like this that I feel like I've reached the end of the rope for me as far as living in NY. If my son and daughter in law come to that conclusion, we're out of here! Life is too short especially now for putting up with 4 months of cold weather.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

We are at 10* also on Long Island. Here’s a tip about generators at least the portable style….when you run them to see if they will start plug in a load to them like a hairdryer to make sure they will produce current. These depend on residual magnetism to make AC current and if not run with a...

Switching from Volvo TBI to Carb on a 1996 5.7 GI

Looking at the edge of the outlet, is that casting flash or a crack? I think casting flash. I think those threaded ports on the pump are usually NPT but on the three carbs (Q-jet, Holley & Edelbrock) I have for the fuel inlets they use straight threads and a double flare fuel line fitting...

Trailer wheel bearings - standard or stainless

Remember “stainless” means stain-less but not rust proof…I have used standard bearings (not sure if they are stainless or not) and as long as you keep water out and grease once a year or so they last a long time. I have some spares in the garage now I’m curious to check with a magnet….

Switching from Volvo TBI to Carb on a 1996 5.7 GI

Great work and congrats! Question: did you use the bypass or blocking fuel regulator?

    Swap wood panel in upholstery

Ah I don't know for sure but isn't that linseed oil REALLY flammable? I think if I do another one of these (have to do the starboard side coaming panel next), I'm just going to use some oil based paint. Interlux Bilgecoat or similar. I used that on wood panels in the engine compartment and they...

    Swap wood panel in upholstery

PS I used PT wood when I did the big sunpad on my 88 F/W and nothing else, it's still good! Done 17 years ago! did the same when I fixed the port side coaming panel like 8 years ago.

Looking for a part (steering pin)

An OMC part may be identical because when they went into the Joint Venture with Volvo in '94, VP took the OMC Cobra transom mount and slightly modified it (the pivot housing part #76 in the diagram above in particular is different) but many parts, if not the majority are the same. I have bought...

    Swap wood panel in upholstery

Also depending on how F/W did it, if you have nuts and bolts to hold the hinges to the rear fiberglass, think about making a backing piece of plywood (1/2" is fine) to spread the load of the hinges out so as to not stress the fiberglass. My boat has the full size sun pad in that location and...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

One thing I just thought of....insurance....will insurance cover the cost of the new engines, etc? Agreed value policy? Would they cover a loss seeing as how the boat was significantly modified from its original configuration?

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I hear that is a side effect of retirement or even semi-retirement. I have discovered it's a ratio. 60/40 "your" projects vs house projects, if you're lucky!
