    Hurricane Irma

Well, we're glad to see that Irma is weakening. And the latest update is showing that it may be tracking farther east of us than anticipated. More good news for us. We got done what we could as far as prepping our homestead, but just couldn't get our place boarded up. But! The great news...

    Dock fishing

Alligator! Small one, about a 5 footer. We were at another lake a year or so ago and saw a 12 footer. Now that was intimidating! Here's a zoomed and cropped image of the "little" one. :D

    Dock fishing

Went to a nearby lake over the Labor Day weekend to check it out for boat access and to fish. First time there. Hoping to take my Kingfisher there someday. :) Found the "resort" which has a nice restaurant with good food and nice folks. Spent several hours fishing from the...

    Hurricane Irma

Well, my strong young buddy injured his back and won't be able to help us board up our place. He came over this evening and gave me some advice though. My wife is concerned that I might have a heart attack if I try to do it myself. Could be. So for tomorrow we'll concentrate on...

    Hurricane Irma

We've decided not to evacuate out of state. Our concern is that we might be 500-600 miles from home and not be able to RETURN if the storm really tears things apart down here and the roads are blocked, no gas, etc. I already have reservations at a hotel just a few miles from home...

    Hurricane Irma

Nowhere to hide... this is the 11PM advisory on 9-7-2017. I've been exploring hotel availability and the vast majority of them are sold out within 500 miles. Ugh. :blue:

    Hurricane Irma

We're still watching the storm very carefully. I'm really glad to see the projected track sliding a bit eastward. If it stays off shore, it makes a tremendous difference in the amount of damage. Farther away means less damage. And over here, it could mean no damage at all. Keeping my...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Been busy with the family and running the roads with health stuff, but I did make a little more progress with the cross brace. Taped the pieces together as a reference, cut a couple of brackets from the L-stock and did some trimming. That's all I could do by myself until "the boy" came home...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Been a busy couple of days with other stuff but I did make some boat progress. :wink-new: Here's my sandwich! :D It was clear that I couldn't get that single piece of wood for the cross brace into place without pulling the cap. So, after measuring and "balancing" the angles and whatnot...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured but I just wanted confirmation. I did cut the single piece cross brace today and obviously it won't go into place without removing the bow cap and associated pieces. Sigh. :fatigue: And I'm not going down that road. I want to be able to finish the...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Guys, I hear ya about the single piece option. I really do. I'm doing what I can to make it happen. :) I went out there this morning fully intending to cut a single brace. And I got stuck again. Nothing on the existing cobbled together T-brace lines up with anything else. Oh yeah, did I...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

I'm planning on putting an aluminum brace over the joints in the wood T-brace sections to connect them together better and add strength. I can use either 3" or 4" wide aluminum stock, 1/8" thick. Whatever fits best. Two options for the aluminum brace: An aluminum T over the wooden T-brace...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, I've been working on the T-brace since yesterday. Several hours each day. And yet I remain frustrated! Yesterday I worked by myself. I put the templates in place, traced around them and got them cut out. But I just couldn't get the angles on the pieces to match up after several...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Had to use the hole saw to get the screws out one of the pieces. And a prybar with the BFH! The boy really liked doing that part. ;) We're all done for today. We now have templates for the next step. I call it good progress even though it isn't much. We also got the Gravely fixed and...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Thanks WM. I'll use the 3/4" ply. And now I can actually move forward! That stubborn T-brace just wouldn't come apart, no matter how much we tried by using screwdrivers, vice grips and whatnot. So the boy suggested drilling the screws out. Tried that too and only got the heads torn up...

    Sunset fishing

Went to a local lake and fished from the bank for an hour or so this evening. We didn't catch any fish but it sure was nice being out there! I was keeping a close eye on the clouds, as there were thunderstorms on both sides of us. I caught this pic of the wispy clouds. The photo is NOT...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Hi guys. Sorry I haven't replied. Had a big time medical scare a couple days ago and it took the wind out of my sails. Looks like it was a false alarm but I have an appointment on 12Sep17 to be absolutely sure. Scared the crap outta me though! Anyway, I've decided to go with Option 2...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got some more pix this morning and have a better idea of what I'm up against. The T-brace is composed of 4 pieces which can be disassembled. The vertical upright has two sections. The rear section is longer and is the part that bolts to the top two horizontal cross pieces. It's not the best...

    Critical Errors?

Heavy sigh. :blue: I was trying to put in a big reply on my Kingfisher thread late last night. Kept getting the error shown in the screen shot below. After a few attempts I opened up a new iboats instance and got Critical Error. Yeahhh... breakin' my heart over here. It was after...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Well, we did a little "drip and glob" sanding yesterday morning and then got the second coat of light gray porch paint onto the insides of the hull. That's the good news. :joyous: The tougher part has to do with that T-brace at the bow. Got the screws out and the interior and exterior...
