I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

A couple more items checked off the list this afternoon. Slow progress but steady anyway. Moved the Chief out of the way and repositioned the donor boat in preparation for engine testing. Charged the brand new starting battery and stuck it in the bilge area. Man, is that donor boat nasty...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

This morning I moved the Chief to an uphill position in the backyard with the bow high in preparation for moving other stuff around the yard. Although I'd raised the bow last week and drained the bilge, a lot more came out this morning with the bow high and uphill. Brown, nasty, mulchy looking...

Fourstroke on 1974 starcraft Holiday/too HEAVY??

That just looks like the brown goop that Starcraft used as a sealant at the factory. Get in there and clean it all out and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to find it's all aluminum and good. I had the same thing in one corner of my stern. Scared me because it looked like a big gap but it...

how to make my 69 starcraft safe

What model and condition is your boat? Pix would certainly help the Starmada render assistance. This is what I did for my 1976 Starcraft Kingfisher.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Got a little more KF work done today. Sanded the dings off the prop from the shallow water event we had when we went fishing the last time (in December) and got that cleaned up. And I swapped the trailer jack from the donor boat to the KF trailer. The donor jack is retractable and I like...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Yet another intruder. Glad we caught it before it headed over to the Chief! :D Finally found the entry point though and will be reinforcing that to prevent future incursions.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Did a little more work this afternoon. I thought it would only take about 5-10 minutes but it was more like 45 minutes because I'd secured the wiring so well. The next time I install a piece of electronic gear I'll make sure it works on the water before nailing it all down! :facepalm...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Thanks guys. It was really nice getting out there to the water again even without a boat. For me, getting out at all was an awesome experience. I was basically a shut-in for over a month and confined to a wheelchair when I did go out. Dunno how I would have managed if I'd hooked into a giant...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Went saltwater fishing yesterday from a dock. I'm not physically able to use the little Kingfisher yet but we really wanted to get out there and give it a go. Didn't catch any fish but my wife caught a couple blue crabs which were trying to steal her bait. Also saw some manatees cruising...

    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

This project will be a full blown restoration and modification of our 1976 Starcraft Chieftain outboard version. Estimated timeline to completion is approximately 2 years. There will be a number of Phases along the way which may include making the boat temporarily operational before...

    BOOM!!

Got out there and took a few more pix this afternoon. Found a couple of surprises in the process of clearing stuff out. Sorry for the blurry pix. I didn't realize at the time that there was dirt on the lens. The cabin area is actually in pretty good shape. The cushions are custom fit and...

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

Okay, I'm out of the wheelchair and back on the job! :crutch: :D Got a couple more small steps done in Phase 1b of the Kingfisher project today. Mounted the trailer walkway platform/plank. Easy, peasy. Then we removed the spare tire carrier from the donor boat and mounted it onto the...

    77' 16ft Starcraftt ss

Are you planning to add more vertical bracing? If someone slips while standing and grabs the top of the sidewalls, I'm not so sure that the base brackets will be strong enough to overcome the leverage loads imposed from the top. I was thinking of something like so:

    BOOM!!

Dang it all! Stuff like this drives me crazy. One option I've considered for the Chief is to repair the transom first and stick a single low-cost motor on the back just to putt-putt around and make the boat usable while I complete my Kingfisher project. That way I won't be without a...

    BOOM!!

Put a supercharger on that bad boy! If some is good, more is better and too much is just right! I know you have 205HP with your I/O but you're also pulling along an extra 400 lbs. of weight compared to the outboards, if my calculations are correct. I have a 1985 50HP Mercury that...

    BOOM!!

Diggin' through my pile o' pix, I found this one where I photo edited a 3 brace option for the twins. Of course, once I start the actual resto thread, I'll explore it further. Transom might need a little work first.
