Power steering return line keeps blowing at cooler 95' 7.4 Bravo1

Just replaced last night in the garage, blew for the 3rd time last week while on vacation. Band aid fixed it by trimming down but after three times it was obvious that something was wrong. Just hoping that the new line holds steady 🤞

Power steering return line keeps blowing at cooler 95' 7.4 Bravo1

Hi all, Long story short is that I've blown PS return line right at the cooler for the 3rd time now. 1995 7.4 Bravo 1. I kept trimming the hose where it would burst/crack, and kept reinstalling until i finally ran out of line length and ended up replacing the entire part with a new quicksilver...

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

Interesting, could be worth throwing a fuel pump at regardless, given it's age

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

No clue about heads, they run quiet so i'm assuming? Motor was built by a reputable builder. Thanks for info on the carb

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

And yes thunderbolt ignition. Bravo drive. Unsure if the heads were done. Are the venturies dribbling normal? From what I’ve read about carter/eddy carbs, they shouldn’t be doing that at idle.

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

Only other component that hasn’t been replaced or verified is the coil. I’ll have to pop every plug out and check as I only looked at a few.

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

What’s the easiest way to check fuel pressure? It’s all steel line so at first glance I’m going to have to remove and make a new rubber line with an in-line gauge

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

Just weird that it fires immediately when cold and after it sits for a few hours

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

It’s a steel line. Looks like the original pump, but It’s a mechanical fuel pump so I’m not sure how they continue to pump when shut down?

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

1995 7.4, carbed. New block and bottom ends, 30ish hrs. Last season I battled hard start/no start when hot. Engine would crank but not fire after warming up. The boat was new to me, so I hadn’t figured it all out yet, but my old boat with a 350 would start with a bump of the key every time. I...

    12v access to "remote" batteries

My boat has a dual battery setup under the hood (engine compartment), and the hood has a power ram system. My biggest fear is that if for whatever reason I have dead batteries, I wont have access to boost. The risk is low, as I have a battery switch under my rear seat wich is manully accessible...

    Identifying 1976 Engine-is it a 302 or a 351?

Nice! Sounds like Priest is where most of them lived. Mine was orange and white. I'm up in Canada (BC) and there are quite a few around, and I used to run mine on the Montana side of Koocanusa and would see the odd one there too. I sold mine this past spring and immediately regretted it, as they...

    Identifying 1976 Engine-is it a 302 or a 351?

Is this boat a red/white/blue American? I’ve seen a few of your posts and from what I’ve read, it sounds like one I looked at about 8 years ago. I used to own a ‘78, they are great boats.

    Mercruiser Engine serial numbers

Thanks for all this. The tag does look a little beat up. There’s certainly evidence that the motor was pulled and reinstalled. I’ll try and get a pic. Shop that did it is legit, but it def has sent me for a brain spin as I didn’t expect to see it on the block of this swapped motor

    Mercruiser Engine serial numbers

Thanks for that. More just curious as I was told the motor was cracked and replaced but after changing plug wires last night I noticed that the serial number plate on the block matches the one on the flame arrestor cover, which also has the matching drive and transom serial numbers. So either...

    Mercruiser Engine serial numbers

Are the engine serial numbers on on Mercruiser block tag and flame arrestor cover unique to the engine or are they the same for a range of the same engines? My engine serial number is 0F557755. It’s a gen V 7.4 block. Thanks in advance.

    Draining manifolds, 1995 7.4

Update on this: spoke to the tech who has worked on this boat since day one. Hadnt really come across it as they run the boats to fog before draining, but wasn’t concerned (atleast not as much as I was). Drain the block, circulating pump and the cooler, fill with antifreeze, and he will have a...
