Yep, saw it now. What about the spring and that pressure control valve. Replace ?

1977 70 hp johnson thermostat housing gasket

I only see 1 grommet in the parts breakdown page aside from the ring for the thermostat itself. Should I do the spring and the pressure control valve too? Or should the spring and valve be OK unless grossly gunked up.

They appear to be. I will probably apply a very thin film on the Gasket, not even enough to ooze out.

1977 70 hp johnson thermostat housing gasket

Yep I think I have the grommets too. I would probably just put a very thin film of sealer on both sides of Gasket, hardly enough to ooze out.

1977 70 hp johnson thermostat housing gasket

I am soon replacing the thermostat and gasket on my 70 hp 1977 Johnson. Should I put RTV silicone on the gasket material or install it dry. And if the silicone is recommended, is the black the best , or is the blue or red just as good.

    1977 Johnson shift/throttle control box

So, at this point, I am on the hunt for a Johnson control box with NO tilt/trim and preferably with the red plug but if it is the newer unit, up to a 95 year. I can order the needed harness to adapt it. I have noticed that on the newer ones, the shift/throttle cables appear to be quite easy to...

    1977 Johnson shift/throttle control box

And I would guess that the newer style may be more plentiful at a salvage yard.

    1977 Johnson shift/throttle control box

So if I get a newer style controller box, get the correct adaptable red plug wire harness, and new cables, if necessary, it should work like a charm.

    1977 Johnson shift/throttle control box

Hey racerone, when you say you are too far away to help with one, does that say you may have access to one ? Like what I am looking for ? What is your location as well. I may end up having to go newer style, but I am trying to keep everything all original if possible. Thank you.

Looking for other Glassmaster boat owners..

Hello, I know exactly where that manufacturer was located. It is about an hour from me. We used to pass by it going into Columbia. I always wanted to stop in there and tour the place but never got an opportunity. I have read up on these boats over the years and have been fascinated with them...

Looking for other Glassmaster boat owners..

Hello, a while back I picked up what appears to be an all original 1977 glassmaster tri hull 600XSD model. It obviously has been in a shelter most of its life. Yes it obviously has its dings and some wear and tear. It's an old boat. The floor feels solid as well as the transom. Nothing...

    Battery cable

Yes that's all I use as well. I prefer the tinned copper. My existing cables look to be the 48 year old originals and I had a bad spot in the positive cable which upon dissecting it , it is just jacketed copper stranded wire, not tinned , and corroded under the insulation. There are no...

    Battery cable

Hello, New here. I have a 1977 Johnson 70 hp and I am trying to determine the AWG size of the existing battery cables. There are no markings on the current cables. Any input would be appreciated.
