    Starter Motor Disengages too soon

Grizznbow if you're still around, and remember what you did over ten years ago, I'd like to hear more about this treatment you did to the cylinder using fuel injector cleaner.

Thanks for your help to this point.

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

So when I get it all back together, I will do this. The one thing I will say though is that what I see in the past is that no matter what I do, the motor fires, the starter gear drops and then the starter keeps going until I let off the key but the motor never gets beyond that first fire. In...

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

Thanks for the tachometer suggestion, I was able to cancel the wire one and am getting the laser one instead. Also thanks for the link and sync instructions. Hopefully I can find the time to get it all back together this weekend.

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

Yep, it's an E50TLCUD. (I have it memorized at this point) Also, I need to get my hands on a tachometer. I know the plug on the controls is for one. If you guys know any sneaky tricks to see the rpms I am all ears. To be honest I haven't really dug into it yet. Edit: I am going to give this a...

Thanks. Reading through the manual now on link and Sync, it's kinda complicated.

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

I'm refreshing myself on how to do a link and sync for this motor (E50TLCUD). How can I tell if it has "fast start"?

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

I tend to agree, they're not perfect but they're not obviously broken either. I'm going to spray and carb charger on them and call it a day. Other than that idle circuit I still need to inspect in the carb, any other suggestions of where to look? Best case scenario I won't be about to do...

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

Wow new reed valves are pricey. Can I just reverse them?

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

Verified the spark jumps 3/8" so no problem there. I have nto yet inspected the idle circuit pointed out by Crosbyman. Inspected the reed valves, a few of them have a very very slight amount of light passing through them. Honestly doesn't seem like the smoking gun but wanted to get your...

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

After doing some research, I should check to see if there is any air and fuel coming back out of the carbs before tearing it apart. I do faintly recall there is. Is it normal to have any air or fuel coming out?

I think I can handle that. Those bolts probably are not seized. Will have to buy a new gasket though.

Cool. Scratch that off the list. I also found this gem in the shop manual, not sure where half those things are:

I'm either not understanding what to test or not using the multimeter right. None of the segments register anything.

How do they look? Seem fine to me. I will say that it is working just fine from an observational standpoint. It spins plenty fast, and when the motor catches it disengages.

Sure I can do that, I have two different manuals to follow for details. So basically you are thinking the starter is not spinning fast enough?

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

Thanks, I have been meaning to test the spark jump. I have on order the tool to test that, it should be here by the weekend and I will give that a try. I should have done it sooner. I noticed the original flywheel key was a little bent the first time I took off the flywheel. I have since...

87 50HP VRO Evinrude - Could this be my problem?

No, I have not simutaneously while starting but I will try. I'm usually alone when this happens so I have tried pumping the primer ball then going back to the console and turning the key. It's typically soft (but not collapsed) when I first grab it, and then it gets firm right away. I'll take a...
