1992 E'rude 8 hp. link and synch .... deciphering the manual

nope no need. a torx t30 or whatever torx you can jam in there will work fine. some seem to be hex head though but forgot which ones. its always a good idea in my opinion to buy an el-cheapo hex/torx amazon assortment set for like $12. one of those will fit:)

1992 E'rude 8 hp. link and synch .... deciphering the manual

assuming this is the newer top mounted starter model being 1992. if yes, there are basically 5 ways to screw up the idle... badly. idle speed screw, slow speed mixture needle , throttle adjust at end of handle, cam follower set screw, and high speed throttle cam set screw. none involve anything...

    4HP 1982 Evinrude not starting

i was thinking of the 4.5hp as he said 1982 but did they make a 4hp as well that year?

    4HP 1982 Evinrude not starting

1st test compression. these should be around 100 psi or 6-7 bar. then if thats fine check for spark. pull each spark plug out hold electrode against the block and flip the flywheel clockwise by hand quickly. should see a bright blue spark and hear a "snap" sound. if both of those are good are...

    Hangkai 6hp Outboard Maintenance

yes they sell lightning (in the USA we call them power coils. powers the charging circuit for the battery) coils for those motors. should be quite easy to get, but i was just saying as-is it will not charge a battery. the CDI needs all the voltage (around 200v at idle possibly 400v) from its...

oh right on. yep its unusual for a pack to have a bad SLOW circuit but have seen it a time or 2. could also be the diode in the harness, no? easy to check that one

well he could've burned it up underneath the SLOW mode rpm of around 2500! t stat seat and grommet and t stat need to be cleaned and replaced. all both upper/lower crank seals and housing o rings come in the powerhead gasket kit. all should absolutely be replaced! $85 for the kit. another $100...

    1996 Johnson 50 Not starting

be careful im not convinced there are any marks to line that up correctly save a flexible ruler and another flywheel for reference. but then again you could be correct id just confirm with racer. the concern would be all it takes is a tiny movement to the right and WOT timing is off a couple degrees

    1995 Johnson 15hp

yep. i have gotten very good at replacing them with some clear fuel hose to measure (if i remember correctly) precisely 5/8'' outer diameter. some plastic epoxy and zip ties save you $35 for a new piece of plastic:)

Guess Who needed a tow home ?

right. but that screw is what sets idle speed port side as described at least on later models. I think they did that change around 86' to make things much easier/finer control without disturbing the cam roller/throttle cam. agreed ive seen some quite messed up in regards to cam linkage!

Guess Who needed a tow home ?

cam/roller is set by adjusting the cam roller set screw to get it to open just past the 2 hash marks. the idle speed is adjusted port side there should be a medium sized flat head screw. loosen the nut and that will change idle speed screwing in or out. 2 different things of course. cam gets set...

    Hangkai 6hp Outboard Maintenance

sorry but how would you hook up the rectifier without power coils in the stator? unless they bizarrely come with them and the leads are just not hooked up, the stator will just consist of a charge coil for the cdi, and a pulsare/sensor/trigger coil. that's it. no battery charging capability on...

Guess Who needed a tow home ?

yea accept the old style over hub exhaust gearcase. honestly those last longer anyway, just has lower thrust at slow speeds can be a pain keeping course into the wind but splitting hairs here:) check to be sure the cam roller comes away from the throttle cam and that the throttle cam moves all...

    1995 Johnson 15hp

i certainly apologize if it sounded like i was suggesting you'd put diesel or fuel with water in it on purpose! i just meant stupid stuff like that can happen without us realizing it. racer as usuall is correct very simple to see if its firing at the correct time by indexing the flywheel. all...

    1990 Johnson 120 over charging

1st test battery directly with a simple multimeter to rule out a bad volt gauge. if its still overcharging, the rectifier will need further (simple diode) testing. 90% sure it will need a fresh replacement.

    1966 Evinrude Lark 8 40HP

in my opinion the best vintage motors are the ones without electric shift and a generator. nothing wrong with them if you know what your doing, just alot of headaches and parts availability woes if you do not.

well if you can move it it slipped! found the issue. you can also see the glue is cracked. i dont think that white mark is a reliable way to re-set the magnet. i just grab another flywheel.

    1987 Johnson VRO70 Model # J70TLCUR Alarm staying on

does your control box have a rubber sleeve thats supposed to go over the terminals on your buzzer? if you leave it out it will go to ground usually as soon as the key is turned, setting the alarm off.

    1996 Johnson 50 Not starting

the only thing that can make your timing that out of whack is a sheared flywheel key, or as racer said a slipped inner magnet for the sensor coil. a flywheel will shear it's key easily and quickly if it had sheared previously and the tapers were not lapped together again. what are the slow...
