    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

Thanks for the pics. 36 years, hmm... I must say, I have tilt cylinders that don't leak, but they're about 45 years old. I assumed they would be leaking soon after I started using them, but I do wonder if they are deteriorated or not. The motors they came from seem to be low hour motors.

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

After a little digging and asking AI, sigh, yes...China parts can be both good and bad quality. The better quality parts have ISO 9001 certification. So I asked it to search for ISO 9001 certification for DB Electric and apparently they use the higher quality parts. Here's what AI "said": DB...

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

Yeah, apparently all aftermarkets that I can find are China made. Or Chinese parts. DB ELectric is based in Tenn though. API (American Products Inc) Based in Fla. uses China parts. And from what I can tell OEM Mercury parts are also sourced from China. Some may be better quality, but who...

    I found something anyway.

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

I may have seen it. Drill our a crescent wrench and insert pins? Neat idea.

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

Oh yeah, that would work! It actually has the 4mm pins. Or slightly less at .150". I just bought one like the one you linked, but I mistakenly got the wrong pin diameter. And haven't found the right pin diameter with the wrench. Thanks for the link!

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

No problem, just thought I'd ask. I found a couple of prospective pumps. I'll check to see if they're Chinese made. DB Electric and API. I did find a pin wrench for the tilt cylinder, but it's 85 bucks! Still cheaper than having it rebuilt by a shop.

Thanks Nordin. What pump do you suggest?

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

Thanks Jerry, I'll see if I can find that company. Otherwise I might try to make a wrench that will fit.

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

Thanks for the tips, MC. I have a heat gun and will try that. Garden hose too. First I need to find a pin wrench that fits better. I bought a gland nut wrench that hooks to a socket wrench, but the pins weren't the right size. My mistake... So far I haven't found replacement pins that will...

    Hydraulic cylinder rebuild

I'm looking for suggestions on how to get a trim/tilt hydraulic cylinder re conditioned. I can attempt to do it myself. I have the rebuild kit, but finding the right sized wrench is proving to be a challenge. I cobbled together a makeshift pin wrench but I can't get the nut to budge. I'm...

    Attempting a motor rebuild

Thanks for the detailed response MC! Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking too. That ring landing had wallered out. Okay, I'm convinced and will adjust my thinking.

    Attempting a motor rebuild

At first I thought you were referring to a wallowed out bore. But your saying new rings on old cylinders may cause issues... What issues does using new rings on old pistons potentially cause? The nice thing about not reboring and using original pistons is about $800, lol... And no loss...

    Attempting a motor rebuild

Well I've heard about 65 buck a pot. But I may not even need that. I pulled the head and there's no scoring on the cylinders or pistons, as far as I can tell. Hoping maybe just new rings.

Electronic distributor made a buzzing sound

I just noticed this exact thing on my motor. It's a 77 105hp with the digital eye distributer. I figured it was normal, Although, I've never heard it on my other 4 motors that are all alike. So not exactly normal. Maybe Franz is onto to something about the contact landing. But seems like after a...

    Attempting a motor rebuild

Makes sense. I wasn't planning to buy parts in advance. Just looking around at where to acquire them. I've found most of them this morning though. Thanks!
