    Reeds?

I assume you have checked and set the floats in the carbs soo they are parallel with the casting when turned upside down. Do you prime the bulb when starting when it is warm?

    Stop switch location?

The issue is that you have the black wire connected at the I terminal at the keyswitch. Remove it and isolate it at the terminal pad. No ground (minus) wire should be at the keyswitch. Use it if you will have auxillaries at the remote control or the dashboard.

    Stop switch location?

The blue wire from the other M terminal at keyswitch should go back to the terminal strip at the engine and be connected at the second screw from bottom. There should be a metal jumper between the second screw and the first screw from bottom at the strip and the first screw is for mounting the...

    1988 125 hp Force rebuild

The gasket for the exhaust tube F439736 is N/A and if it is bad you have to make one of your own. If it is bad exhaust will leak and maybe it will come up under the hood and the engine will breath some exhaust instead of only fresh air. The gasket exhaust lower 809825 is N/A and you have to make...

    85hp Merc?

    Late 60es (68-69) and early 70es (70-71) 650 were 4 cylinders. The 3 cylinder 650 was from 72-76.

    85hp Merc?

Yes there are different ways to remove those parts, saw or drill and crack are some action to get them out. But the bad thing is that it can be problem to get a new carrier and nut if you have to take the LU apart. If you find them they can be pretty expensive, the carrier is a whole assembly...

    Stop switch location?

Ignition switch has stop function. Key all the way to left and you stop the engine. 1988 125Hp and you should have the Prestolite ignition system with two CD modules. Keyswitch has two M terminals, generally one of these M terminals is connected to ground and the other M terminal connected to...

    85hp Merc?

Nice engines those 4 cylinders 500, 650 and 800/850, early and mid 70es. Later 80Hp and in the mid 80es 75Hp. I have one 500 1970, one 800 1971 and a 800 1972. Love those BUT when I look at the web site such as Crowley Marine, Iboat etc and check with the shops in Sweden where I am, I see that...

    Force 120hp Major Overheat

The engine block prior 1990 has the water pressure relief valve (poppet valve) and a thermostat. Post 1990 the block does not have the poppet valve, but the casting of the hole is there. No valve cover and no machining in the block. The thermostat is the only thing that regulates the cooling...

    Force 120hp Major Overheat

The force power if I not remember wrong there is a small cavity cast in the mid leg that catch a small amount of the cooling water and exhaust that leave the exhaust side of the block. That is why cooling water exit the relief holes even if you run the engine with or without the LU.

    Force 120hp Major Overheat

That proves there are no blockage in the block/water jackets. Change the impeller, one fin missing at the impeller. Theoretically you are loosing about 17% in the water pump performance with one fin missing. As you see it is important that the small screw at the back of the impeller housing is...

    Force 120hp Major Overheat

This is some long shot. Do not have a good clue but do you have the right impeller in it. It should be MTM89984 not MTM-3065 or 3056. From my experience it should spit more water out of the relief holes at the back when it idles. Looking at you first pic and I do not see the two small screws for...

    Spark Plug suggestions!

As I am in Sweden Europe, it is easier to find NGK than Champion. I have NGK BUX surface gap style in my Mercury 800 1972. I have also NGK surface gap style plugs and Champion UL18V (surface gap style too) in a couple of Chrysler 70-75Hp. Both brands have been good in my OBs.

1980's serial number / harness / general questions

Decals as racerone says 1976 and also 1977 (decals called "hockey sticks"). But in 1976 and 77 there was no 200Hp, the Black Max was 175Hp those years.

    Force 120hp Major Overheat

Not really hard to pull the power head off from the mid leg. 12 screws to remove the mid leg cover, 6 at the back and 6 in the bottom of the cowl. Then you can remove the nuts that hold the power head to the mid leg it is 10 of them. Disconnect all wires from the harness to the power head, the...
