Pushing Run-Flat tires to the limit

Agreed, for buying another vehicle no spare tire is a no sale for me. You can use a temp spare but be careful on AWD vehicles, I recall on our latest Subaru you must put the temp spare on the rear, so if you flat is on the front, you have to move a good tire from the rear to the front, so both...

Pushing Run-Flat tires to the limit

I replaced the temp spare tires on both of our Subarus with a real tire, there was just enough room to squeeze it in there. If I had a car built with out a spare tire, I might just carry one on long trips like that if I didn't need the full luggage space. On the Chrysler Pacifica I rented...

    Trailer tires.

Bias ply vs Radials: Bias is good for local towing, rougher roads, lousy boat ramps, because the sidewalls are usually about 2x as thick as a radial. Most radials other than a full steel tire have only a 2 ply polyester sidewall. A Load Range D bias tire has an actual 4 ply sidewall (but rated...

Pushing Run-Flat tires to the limit

Don’t you miss a full size spare? I carry a charged 1/2” drive impact gun on long trips in case I have to change a tire esp when we’d be heading up to Montreal for the F1 or Watkins Glen for NASCAR. We did rent a Chrysler Pacifica that didn’t have a spare for the F1 trip last year and it was on...

Hopefully it actually WILL come off! Outdrives don’t suffer lack of maintenance gladly.

    2007 Mercruiser Bravo One Service

I’d at least pull it to see if there’s water in the bellows & check the gimble bearing & ujoints. At 19 years I can’t believe that the bellows ISNT all dried out and cracked!

    I HATE AUTOMATIC BILGE PUMPS!

Checked it every few days, or get someone at the marina to keep an eye on it. I have my boat behind my house and we all keep an eye on each other's boats.

    D’oh

The usual cause: VW used cloth covered fuel lines instead of using clamps when the cloth got old and rotted the lines got loose Also owners added plastic fuel filters in the line from the pump to the carb, these can crack and split and spray fuel all over the engine The right way to do it is get...

stand back, look at parts, scratch our head while mumbling.... Started with this, in 1972....yeah those are my 17 year old greasy fingerprints... back when you could buy them in print I used to buy the shop manual for all my vehicles. Last one I got was for my 2007 Grand Cherokee, it's on my...

1999 Volvo Penta 5.0 GL freeze plug kits

Probably add to that, the power steering cooler that is mounted on the rear of the engine like OMCs had it. This is one of the main reasons people are going to outboards, no one wants to deal with the hassles of draining these things every time the temp drops, and the boat companies make it...

    Missing bolt 4.3 mercruiser

Looking at it again, it could be water, are you sure that you don't have water in the oil? Look under the oil fill cap/valve cover to see if you have any mayonnaise looking emulsified crud in there. Like this from mine when I had blown head gaskets/water in the motor oil.

    I HATE AUTOMATIC BILGE PUMPS!

I think a simple float switch as long as not prone to fouling with debris is simpler and better!

    I HATE AUTOMATIC BILGE PUMPS!

Agreed the odd thing is that I find with my boat it gets less in the bilge from rain water when it's actually out on the mooring than when it's in the driveway.

    I HATE AUTOMATIC BILGE PUMPS!

Moored/docked boat always get rain water in the bilge even with waterproofed covers.

Is this engine carbed or fuel injected? I’d be looking for fuel leaks before anything else.

    I HATE AUTOMATIC BILGE PUMPS!

The best auto bilge switches I used were the Sure Bails with the Mercury switches. First one lasted 12 years and the one I put in after that is about the same age now. I bought a spare back then so if this one fails I have a replacement. They don’t make these anymore as far as I know….
