Trying to get rid of bow lift and get in shallower water

Re: Trying to get rid of bow lift and get in shallower water I marked the top metal edge of the transom, the top left corner of the cmc plate, and the actual line from bottom of boat to level point on motor lower unit.. The engine is down level but the angle of the pic is off to see the...

Trying to get rid of bow lift and get in shallower water

Motor and boat in my sig... Right now I *think the motor is properly positioned on the transom/PTT CMC plate... cavitation plate just above water input area is right around the bottom of the transom.. but the remainder of the engine is about a foot or 2 lower than the boat... 2 dislikes I'm...

Small plastic inline fuel filter acceptable for a TOP?

Wondering if the small disposable inline fuel filters will be acceptable and NOT hinder the psi to unacceptable levels? Anyone run one between the gas tank and the primperbulb/engine? (I know there's one in the fuel pump, but hey, peace of mind) I was going to go with a water separator but the...

    Blower mod?

I know it might be negligible, but anyone know how much air the carbs in the tower of power motors take in? Had a thought of adding 3 of something like these to each carb... (but of course it would need to supplement the normal CFM each carb consumes and not restrict it) Fan Blower, 4"...

    Additional Rectifier/Larger Rectifier Mod?

Anyone know the voltage/amperage off hand the stator puts out and if it's not possible to add a 2nd rectifier in the circuit, to upsize the rectifier to one to obtain more current output? Heck, even run a 2nd, to a secondary battery setup.. I have yet to see maxes on the parts.. Thanks!

On a I6 '77 1150, best spot for temp probe?

Going to be replacing the wiring harnesses here soon, there's 1 extra wire and I'm thinking I'll turn it into a temp gauge wire. The only question would be, where would be the best place to stick the temp probe? Thanks very much!

What are the newest design for Tower of Power needles/seats/floats?

Gonna rebuild the carbs, but from what I gather so far, the floats have changed from foam to plastic? (I thought I saw some metal ones too?) Are the plastic or metal the newest/most efficient design? Anything like that for the needles/seats? I just want to be sure I'm not putting parts back in...

Do I need to upsize jets for a single vaca to Colorado mountain lakes?

The thought crossed my mind, I live in Iowa, maybe 700(?) ft above sea level... Can I take the boat to lakes in Colorado without having to tear open the carbs to upsize the jets? Sorry, completely new to boating, didn't even think about the consequences of elevation... lol

    What is this?

Going over parts etc... Little blue thing with two wires. One is ground and one is same post on switchbox as brown wire to distributor.

How hard to replace reeds in 77 Mercury 1150?

Still need to do several things to my engine, but if those don't work, I'll either have to rebuild the carbs or as I saw in one post (rough idle at low rpm, 650ish rpm usually results in sluggish decrease until engine stall) possibly replace the reeds? I am committed to getting this engine back...

    Tower of power problems

So it shimmies slightly (twisting kinda) every now and again. It also seems to start at the ramp without a problem. Then after running around all over, idling, running around, etc, then I shut it off. I can let it sit 15 minutes, try to start it and it seems to crank over and start at a low rpm...

Is a lync and sync needed after a new dist cap/plugs/plug wires?

I had the local shop do a lync and sync, but then after that I had them change the distributor cap, plugs, and plug wires. Do I need another lync and sync done? As a side note, can I adjust idle mixture without doing the lync and sync? (my buddy thinks the engine is shaking a little due to it...

    Bent flywheel bracket?

Re: Bent flywheel bracket? Ya here we go: 1976 Mercury 1150 Disassembly Part 3 FLYWHEEL/STATOR/CARBS/DISTRIBUTOR - YouTube Unless I'm mistaken all of these are straight? I'll post a pic of mine when I get home... Can I just take it off and bend it straight? I see in a parts shop diagram it's...

    Bent flywheel bracket?

Re: Bent flywheel bracket? This, not sure if it's a bracket or what the name is for it, there's 4 of them on top of the flywheel(?) and one of them is not flat, but bent/rounded upwards so I'm wondering if that's causing my shimmy/shake.... Wondering if this is by design, or somehow it got...

    Bent flywheel bracket?

I've got quite the shimmy every now and them with my mercury '77 1150, and I realized one of the four plates on the top around the outside are curved upwards a bit while the other three brackets/plates are all straight? Is this normal?

    Can I do anything else?

So, 77 Mercury 1150, was in halfway decent shape, after the below replacements, I see there's a tiny bit of corrosion on the internal wiring harness so I'm wondering if that's it, but the guy before me said he disassembled the fuel pump and carbs last year and gave em a good cleaning. My...

Tri-hull doesn't like to center on trailer

I've got a 84 Venture Stallion, trihull, and a trailer with 2 bunks, and a front roller next to the winch. Unless I load it, check it, maybe have to back into the water again to center it, etc, it usually sits 2" to the left of center. I know this puts more weight on one side, but it seems to...

    Minn Kota foot pedal problem

The unit would not turn to the left, everything else worked fine. The hardest part of disassembly is sliding the top white plastic all the way to the right, and then somewhat pulling it up away from the back base, and then getting it to slide back left, up and away from the rest of the unit...

Bah, help! Solenoid terminals S and I?

1977 Mercury 1150, changing out solenoid, and mine doesn't match the manual... I know the PO changed the charging system from a stator and rectifier to a newer style rectifier/regulator, but I don't think this has anything to do with it? I could be wrong. Anyways, the manual I have shows the...
