    Loss of power, won't plane

Thanks. Can I reuse that cylinder head that appears to have some ding marks on it?

    Loss of power, won't plane

Im assuming that I need to pull the powerhead in order to do the rebuild? Do I need a hoist for that or can it be done by hand?

    Loss of power, won't plane

Finally got some time to open this engine up. Side cover for cylinder 3 looks to me like part of the piston ring is missing. Can someone confirm from this photo? This is my first time inside a boat engine. The bores don't look great on any cylinder, and there appears to be some damage to the...

    Loss of power, won't plane

Great to hear. I'm in the Laurentians so I believe this engine has always been fresh water. I'll start pulling it apart and report back with more questions soon. Thanks ☺️

    Loss of power, won't plane

Ok will do. I'm reading people saying that you should warm the engine before removing bolts. Should I try to run it for a bit first? Or use a heat gun?

    Loss of power, won't plane

Thanks for the reply. I got a borescope into the cylinder with the lower compression. Here's a video: I'm a little reluctant to pull the head as I feel that once I do that the boat won't be going back in the water until next year. Based on the video does it look like piston ring issue? I'm...

    Loss of power, won't plane

Hi, I have a J100TRLCSC and when I was out the other day everything was great, until it wasn't. I was pulling a tube and after swapping riders and restarting the engine I couldn't get up on plane. Boat seemed really down on power and was difficult to start. It wasn't a gradual thing, it was...

Should I add a fuel filter?

Hi, I have a J100TRLCSC. I was surprised there wasn't much in the way of filtering for the fuel. It seems the pump as a screen in it but that's the only filtration. Should I add an inline paper filter to the hose after the primer bulb? Or maybe a water separator? Thanks

    Trouble going into Forward gear

I took the shift cable off on the engine side and it seems that when the shifter is in neutral the cable is too far back. So I adjusted it with the adjusters on the engine side of the cable and out it back in. On land test seems good. Now it finds forward neutral and reverse no problem. Will...

    Trouble going into Forward gear

Hi all, new to boats so I'm not very familiar with outboards yet. I have a Johnson J100TRLCSC. Today when I was out I switched the engine into forward and it reved up but didnt go anywhere, then with a bang it went into gear and off I went. Later that day I was more careful switching from...

    Switched 12v

Hi, I'm new to boats. In cars there is the concept of a switched 12v line which is live when the ignition is on. Do boats with an outboard have a similar concept? If so does it work based on the key in the remote control unit? If not then are things like lights, horn, speedo, fuel gauge all...

How do I fix this ladder?

Here's a pic of the ladder. Can I get some advice on specifically what to buy on terms of a backing plate and through bolt? I'm assuming I need stainless steel, what sizes should I be looking for? Thanks

No power to red wire inside remote control

Will give that a try. All the auto parts stores here are closed on weekends so I did a make shift repair. Balled up some wire and soldered it so it would keep its shape then plugged in into the fuse connectors. Is probably be as well cutting off the old glass fuse connectors and making this...

How do I fix this ladder?

New to boats, just bought this one. Looks like the ladder is attached with self tappers which have pulled out. How would I fix this? I was think.of using Bondi glass to fill the hole then redrill it? Are self tappers string enough here? Also seems that the bracket isn't flush against the hull...

Can't get the remote control open

What a kerfuffle. Turns out the new ignition barrel is deeper than the original, hence the interference. Had to move the wires around a lot and mount the new one slightly off centre. Wrapped all the terminals up in electrical tape and seems good now. Thanks for all the help 😊

No power to red wire inside remote control

Never seen a fuse this small. Where would I find a replacement and what should I ask for?

No power to red wire inside remote control

Found this fuse in the engine. What would cause it to blow?

No power to red wire inside remote control

Hi, Starter won't turn. There's no power at the red wire inside the remote control. The battery is new and fully charged. There is 12v on the cigarette lighter socket on the dash. The power trim works. There is 12v inside the solenoid box on both sides of the fuse. What else is in between...

Can't get the remote control open

Thanks. Putting it back together now with a new ignition barrel, I'm a bit worried about the brass screws shorting on the body. Note the screw I'm pointing at and the part on the body which will come close to it. Is there any tricks to this? Have I mounted the ignition barrel incorrectly? At...

Can't get the remote control open

I drilled the heads off and got it open. Couldn't find any stainless screws the right size locally but found these. I think they're galvanised. Any issues using these rather than stainless?
