    Prop Damage

Prop on my new boat has a pretty good scuff and slight bend in it. Should I be concerned? Can I fix it myself? Sorry about the lousy pictures. For some reason they didn't come out very good.

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Got my manual yesterday! Sure took the scenic route getting here. Unlike the other one which looked like it may have already made a trip to the outhouse, this one is pretty much pristine! I'd sure like to have my boat worked on at a marina which kept their books so nice. Now I realize why it's...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Gotta love ebay, guy still hasn't shipped. Says he had a cold.....LOL While I'm waiting wonder if somebody could tell me how the choke works? I know pushing the key in energizes a solenoid, but that's all. Switch was sticky and not working well, but a little shot of WD-40 cured that.

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Thanks for the link, but don't believe any of those manuals are for a 2 stroke 4 banger. They're all 4 stroke and 3 cylinders. Not disputing that some of the parts may be the same, but just like with the Seloc books, I don't see these being much good. Since they're digital you can't even wipe...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Thanks Scott. That's the only manual I can find, but man that thing is gross. Looks like it's covered in mold. I wonder if the inside pages are even legible. Is the Seloc #1406 manual any good? I'm thinking probably not because it spans a bunch of years and models...

    impeller. 82 50 hp 4 cyl

Wow I can get a new OEM one for $35 at a Merc dealer?! I'm pretty amazed. We actually have one normal marina left in town and they ARE a Merc dealer! I'd almost betcha though the old grouch who runs the place will not have it in stock and be less than enthused about ordering it. I went in for a...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

I appreciate the input fellows. Although I'd rather score a free manual, I've purchased a lot of manuals in my life! I've not been able to find a manual for this motor though. All I find are generic books that cover a bunch of diff models. Remind me more of Chiltons than a FSM. If somebody can...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Messed with that plastic clip, never actually got it loose. Also tugged on cables a bit. Then was able to idle it down, but something seems sticky. The idle is floating around. Also think may have killed my impeller. Those stupid muffs fell off and I didn't notice right away. Geez, I just can't...

    Quick Question for Merc Experts

Guess I'm attending the school of hard knocks here. I'm learning, but it's proving to be a steep curve Haven't been revving the hell out of it really, but have been giving it some brief bursts just to see if it is accelerating without bogging. I'm kind of lost now, but guess will not mess with...

    impeller. 82 50 hp 4 cyl

I'll admit haven't tried an actual Merc dealer, but I gotta wonder when R1 last checked prices on these. Think maybe I'm looking for the same part for my '85 75 HP Merc and I'm seeing the same thing. Some Merc impellers are over a hundred bucks. Sierras seem to be more like $25-30.

    Quick Question for Merc Experts

Got after it yesterday, but all I managed to do was get the idle to drop down, but it many times idles high and then drops down. Weird. All I did was pry around on the cables trying to figure out how to release them to adj. Now I think they are OK, but maybe need lube or something? Oddly didn't...

    Quick Question for Merc Experts

Good to know. It's 50 out with a stiff N breeze, not feeling much like getting wet, but it needs to be done. Hopefully it'll warm up.

    Quick Question for Merc Experts

Thank you Chris. The amount of misinformation online is amazing! So I'm obviously too lean I think. Could this cause a high idle speed?

    Quick Question for Merc Experts

Do the idle adjustment screws work normally on in line 4s (mine is a 75 HP) or are they backwards? I read somewhere that you tighten them, clockwise to richen the mix instead of turning CCW like most carbs. I'm thinking this is wrong as I watched a vid on adj the carbs and the guy was doing it...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Thank you sir, I'll see if can figure out how to do that. The cable just pops off and then it spins I reckon?

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

BTW, I checked the compression on this motor the other day and got 150 across the board! Kinda shocked actually. Not complaining, just never saw figures this high on any of the small OMCs I've messed with.

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Well the winds really kicked up with the temps, so the launch got aborted. Current issue is the idle is too high and the idle stop doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm thinking the cables are. Anybody know how to adjust them? I see a bunch of threads showing so they must be adjustable. I didn't...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Got the carbs off, cleaned, and reinstalled yesterday. Running much better. Starts easy, doesn't die. Idles a bit high though. I found the idle stop, but that didn't seem to drop the idle very much. I see where it looks like the cables are adjustable. Not sure want to mess with that or not. Not...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

Thanks for all the helpful info. Never thought about trying the library. I'm definitely going to check into that. A manual would be nice, but I can't seem to dig up anything that I'm sure is the correct one. Seems most cover a range of engines, kinda like the old Chilton manuals for cars I'm...

    Merc 75 4 cylinders, 2 carbs

I actually turned this one up, pretty much all I can find. Wish it showed how to pull them. Guess I can figure it out. Be nice to have a manual, but not even sure if that's an option. Ones I've looked at seem to be for newer motors or cover a bunch of sizes which may not be of much use? Sure...
