    Here are pictures promised. Discovered reason had such a hard time removing pop rivets. The person I bought boat from had tore everything out and refurbished. He had used ss pop rivets.

    Trim strip off, thank you again Sidingguy. Starboard gunwale off. Finished Sat., was so exhausted did not take pics. Will post some pictures when weather clears.

    Getting ready to tackle that trim strip again. Going to take my hand held heat gun out. Got to make a trip to get a couple more drill bits as I flubbed my dub with mine yesterday. That bugger coming down today one way or another.

    Thank you sidingguy, was trying to get it to slide out today. So far it is not budging. Suppose it is stuck? Not sure if heat would help or harm?

    Hope my fellow starcrafters can help me with this? Have to remove the gunwale on starboard side. Have started removing pop rivets top and btm. It appears to still be fastened at center. Have removed end caps at helm and transom. There is some wood grained I suppose vinyl don't know how to remove...

    Welcome aboard 1978 stabler. I had a 1973 that looked very much like yours. You are very fortunate to have such a great gift. Good luck with the restore, will be watching your thread closely. Anything I can spot to help you with I will.

    This is my current Starcraft. It is a 22' Holiday converted to open bow. Picked it up 2 years ago, just figured how to log in with my new phone.

    This turned out to be quite a chore. As promised pictures with remote out of gunwale. Still have to remove the gunwale as there is a bulkhead behind it.

    Yes, if the penitraiting oil does not work, have a small air tool can attach cutoff wheel to. Will send some pics. When get it out.

    Thank you Chris 1956. Someone epoxied the nuts on. Will have to go in from front side of gunwale to see if can break nuts free. If not am considering cutting an access just below were guts are. When read your last post, the light bulb came on.

    My vote definitely goes to plastic. I changed to plastic in 2001, have never been sorry. Reasonable price, durable and as said earlier last forever.

    Thank you so very much. Am going to remove nuts and see if can get controls thru middle opening. Was not sure it would do any good to remove nuts . Have been playing with boats for over 50 years, first time have run across this kind of controls.

    As you can see remote controller is toast. What am trying to figure is can I cut the 3 bolts off and it will release back side or am I going to have to bite the bullet, and take down entire starboard gunwale?
