    Finishing before gelcoat

I was underneath the boat and noticed this. The boat got water inside due to a cloudburst before I could get it inside This was weeping from the bottom ridge, is this hole in the hull? I tried using epoxy filler, how bad is this?

    Finishing before gelcoat

Sprayed the interior with Duratec/gelcoat too I’m getting ready to mount the outboard. Should I use an aluminum plate to reduce to stress on the transom? I have plenty of plate aluminum. Should the plate extend about 2” past the holes?

    Finishing before gelcoat

It came out pretty good. I'll need to wet sand and buff. 50./50 Duratec with gel coat goes on way better than gelcoat with wax. Thanks Scott Danforth

    Finishing before gelcoat

Thanks everyone. I'm moving to seat upholstery and looking for advice.. The floor looks bad. I'm hoping Duratec helps with the finish. I want to change the seat color. With the blue carpet I picked, and the tan seat color does not match. Would white work? I was thinking of using vinyl...

    Finishing before gelcoat

When you put gelcoat, do you add 2 ounces wax/gallon? I added a 1/2 ounce wax to a quart of gelcoat , but the gelcoat rubs off pretty easily I’ve sprayed about 3 coats, 1 cost, no wax, 2nd coat with wax, sanded and wiped down, followed by the 3rd coat How do you get a shiny gelcoat? I need...

    Finishing before gelcoat

The top half has been mated with the bottom after a year apart. I sanded down with 40 grit, filled and faired. Sanded with 120, and wiped down with acetone. I've masked off the areas. Is it better to paint late in the evening or in the morning? I'm just doing the white gelcoat without...

    Finishing before gelcoat

Ok, sprayed the first layer, I did not have a gelcoat sprayer, so I thinned with MEK an applied with a HVLP gun, letting it air, and added 1% wax by weight. It was catalyzed at 2%. The final coat is tomorrow, where I 'll up the wax to 2ounce to a gallon. Is it a bad idea to let this sit...

    Finishing before gelcoat

Thanks zool, I used Q cells from Us composites because I used polyester. Below is after 1 coat with fairing compound. It filled in all the weave from 1708. I have gelcoat, do I add wax to the 1st coat. or skip it and add 10% wax to the 2nd coat?

    Finishing before gelcoat

I put a layer an extra layer of 1708. I'm about to do gelcoat, but the weave of the fabric shows through. What do folks recommend? Add extra coats of gelcoat, or use a 4 oz. fabric with a fine mesh to apply to the 1708 and then spray gelcoat? The glass turned out okay, I wanted to carry this...

    Crooked or warped transom

I already have two 3/4 ounce layers of CSM down. I was putting 1700 on top. I plan to wet the cured CSM with poly and lay down the 1700. Should I use a 4 ounce cloth or a fairing compound to smooth out the weave of the 1700 before I spray gel coat? Thanks GPSLures

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

As long as you don’t have the entire length of your stringer bonded directly to the hull it’s fine. What you don’t want is to propagate a stress crack, that’s why the flexible spacers prevent the stress from going along its entire length The chopped glass fiber in the PB also make the...

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

You've got it setup well; stringers right up to the transom, I did the bulkheads last. I used 1" long pieces of PolyEthylene foam (used for floor tiles) spaced a foot apart as a spacer for the PB, PE won't dissolve the PE foam, it cushions the stringer from the hard contact with the hull.

    Crooked or warped transom

Hey folks, I took the wrong advice and got 1.5 oz. CSM and put a layer on it did not go down smooth despite my attempts. I sanded down the high spots. I bought 1700 and not 1708. Since I put down CSM, do I need to go buy 1708, or can I use the 1700 with US Comp, 435 layup resin? Thanks

    Crooked or warped transom

Hey folks, I'm trying to fix a mistake. I used one layer of 1.5 oz. CSM with USC 435 layup resin. I sanded down any high spots. I bought 1700 biaxial instead of 1708. Can I use the 1700 with polyester layup resin, to go back on the 1st layer of CSM? I do I need to get 1708 over all of this...

    fiberglassing in new floor

Just search youtube motor falls off, or broken transom. Here what mine looked like, and it came out in wet chunks. If it flexes too much you could crack the fiberglass, especially if you have a 90 HP motor, that weighs 300 pounds.

    Crooked or warped transom

I used US composites 2LB. foam one gallon each part A & B. It managed to get most of the areas under the deck. Should I build flotation boxes with a 90 HP outboard? Motor weighs 350 pounds. It has 60 pounds flotation per cubic foot and I have almost 8 cubic feet under the deck. It was...
