Prop shaft vs crankshaft alignment on DPS-A

Decided to update the first post with some clarification. Accordiing to manual the -6 to +6 is the normal operating trim range (respective numbers on EVC screen). On the drawing (a real work of art, I know) - is it so that when EVC shows me "0" it means the engine crankshaft A and the prop shaft...

    DPS-A trim cylinder rebuild needed?

Thank you all for input. I'm wondering why the workshop manual asks to remove the outdrive before taking off the trim cylinders. Doesn't say why or anything, just the very first clause is you should remove the outdrive??

Prop shaft vs crankshaft alignment on DPS-A

My boat has always had this bow-high riding attitude. So much so that it is often porpoising unless the tabs are down. Other boaters are saying why don't you trim down your outdrive, but it is as down as it can be. So when doing maintenance I adjusted the trailer so that engine is level on...

    Slack in DPS-A steering?

Found the culprit - two linkages inside the boat have minor slack, really small. However, the whole outdrive is like 2 ft long if not more and it adds up to like an inch in the tip of the exhaust. Seems to be "designed" so.

    Slack in DPS-A steering?

When preparing the boat for the season I noticed that there is about an inch of slack/play when moving the tip of exhaust/cavitation plate to left and right. Haven't paid attention whether it has been always there or is it something new. Is that normal or should I be looking for some worn...

    Reusing same bellows again

I need to address the corrosion on the DPS-A outdrive and I have now been organizing myself needed tools and materials and soda blasters and what not. However, what got me thinking was if I can reuse the same bellows again - these are practically new, installed like six months ago and driven...

VIDEO Help: Post Texas Freeze Leak

Seems to me it is manifold thats cracked, but hard to say. While engine off, feel it with your fingers is there somethkng sharp underneath? Or take a mirror or take pics with phone. You could escape this with "only" bursted manifold.

    DPS-A trim cylinder rebuild needed?

Ok, a plan is starting to develop, thank you guys. However, how do you get the old oil out? I would imagine if you just unscrew the small diameter hoses from cylinder the "vacuum" won't let the oil to drip out?

    DPS-A trim cylinder rebuild needed?

Thanks for the tip, that's a good start. One thing that I can't find from any of the manuals is how to drain the fluid from trim cylinders and how to fill the system again? Or could it be possible to pry the metal cap retaining ring and drain the cylinder with pulling the rod out?

    DPS-A trim cylinder rebuild needed?

While preparing things for the outdrive removal and painting I discovered that trim cylinder is leaking. Not really leaking like drippingf or anything but "sweating" if you know what I mean. IS that something that is in their nature or should they be completely dry outside? I saw the cylinder...

    DPS-A corrosion

BRICH - there's like 20 different JB-s available. I'm assuming your's was JB Marineweld? The top paint was some 2K PUR/poly or 1K acrylic? Is your boat btw wetslipped or trailer/lift kept?

    DPS-A corrosion

Thanks BRICH for the "wake up call" if I can say so. Decided now to deal with this issue before the season and immediately run into problems and questions. From the research in the web found that the correct procedure would be: - sand down the corroded areas - fill voids with epoxy (J-B Weld) -...

    DPS-A corrosion

Crawled under the boat tarp the other day thinking what should be done and updated and so on. One thing that caught my eye was corrosion on the outdrive. Is that something that should be addressed somehow or is it superficial and rather a thing of visual appearance? And if it should be fixed...

    Engines: 2 x 4.3GXi or 1 x 5.7Gxi

Looking for a new boat and the same boat is available either with two engines (4.3 GXi) or 1 engine 5.7Gxi. Everything else is exactly the same. So what do you think - a 29 ft boat that weighs 8500 lbs - what would be the fuel consumption difference between those two in cruise, who would be the...

How many hours on Volvo Penta 4.3GXi-jf

The other day I was discussing boat engines with couple of folks and some questions arised which everyone had a complete different views. Maybe there was a bit of the OB hype involved also, who knows. First - what's the general consensus, how many hours say a 2008 VP 4.3gxi with closed cooling...

Volvo Penta 4.3 GXi-JF closed cooling draining

That's an idea worth considering, honestly. I'll give it a try, then it would take care of the manifold where no water came out. Could you also suggest regarding the two other points - fogging oil and fuel system priming? Thank you in advance!

Volvo Penta 4.3 GXi-JF closed cooling draining

A year has gone by and was thinking of adding couple of thoughts/questions on the topic. Anyway, when performing the same procedure couple of things that I did differently 1. didn't drain the closed cooling part of the system, but when I opened left manifold drain port a decent amont of water...

    Winterizing a 2020 4.3L duoprop

The engine I have is a lot older 4.3GXi but the principles are still the same (I guess?). Mine has also closed cooling so I just drained the exhaust manifolds and raw water side (water intake and exchanger) and that's it. A small tip - the coolant I'm running has a rating of -25 deg celsius. But...

    Water leak through outdrive?

I have a VP 4.3 GXi-JF with DPS-A drive and the bilge is always bone-dry even though it is wet slipped. Now however I have noticed the last few days when on the sandbar that there is few gallons of water in the bilge afterwards. The only thing that I can relate it to is that the drive has been...

    DPS-A weird behaviour

Haven't done much hours on this boat of mine. So when you start noticing things you start noticing things :joyous: According to the trim gauge the normal operating trim range is from -6 to +6, thats where the whole rpm range is under your right arm. Then comes the shallow water range and trailer...
