    How to install flywheel

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve spent the good part of an hour trying to find matches. Unfortunately the hub is non rusting, so nothing is matching up.

    How to install flywheel

My struggles never seem to end. At this rate I’m not going to get the family out until winter! Short story, I had a bit of a falling out with my mechanic so I paid him for the work he had done and retrieved my un-assembled motor. He had removed the flywheel by unbolting it from the flywheel...

    Mariner black stator replacement

I got through to CDI tech support (I think I may have called when they were not yet open). The guy I talked with was 5 star, triple A. More knowledge than I could have expected. Very impressed. Anyhow, the stator I have is the correct replacement. As I sort of expected, this stator replaces a...

    Mariner black stator replacement

I’m in the process of replacing the stator for my 1996 40 hp mariner magnum. It is a black stator with part number 398-9710A33. I’ve ordered and received the replacement from CDI, part number 174-9710K 1 The documentation that came with the replacement confirmed that it replaces the original...

    Another ‘No Spark’ questione

I’m back! So I installed the new switch box but still no spark. Any other suggestions? This is driving me nuts!

Mercruiser 4.3 - no fuel but fuel pump runs after attempted start

Hmmm. I posted in the wrong forum section. How do I move it to mercuiser section?

Mercruiser 4.3 - no fuel but fuel pump runs after attempted start

Well, it’s been a challenging summer!!! Getting my Maxum (with a 2000 4.3L Mercuiser with Thunderbolt V Ignition) ready to sell while I wait for parts for my pontoon....now it won’t start. Turns over ok but no start. Put a bit of gas in the carb and fires right up (but doesn’t continue to...

    1992 Mercury 40 hp 4 cylinder information

Did you try the mercury site (you need to go into the USA site version, the Canadian version doesn’t work....or at least didn’t work for me). It you can’t get via the website, I think you can call them.

    Another ‘No Spark’ questione

Ok, I disconnected the wires from the switch box and tested for spark. No spark when they are connected together or not.

    Another ‘No Spark’ questione

Thanks for the additional diagnostic. The are two black/yellow wire on the same post. When I remove them, should I keep them together or should I separate them? Thanks again for your help!

    Another ‘No Spark’ questione

Thanks for the input Chris. There isn’t a kill switch on this model (unless I’m missing something)

    Another ‘No Spark’ questione

Nope, no kill switch (I knew I was forgetting to mention something else in my post)

    Another ‘No Spark’ questione

So I’m continuing my search for the no spark issue on my 1996 40 hp 4 cylinder mariner magnum electric start. I say “continuing” because I did the tests with an unpredictable meter the first time. Anyhow, this is the summary: No spark on any cylinder Stator ohm’s tests ok Trigger ohm’s tests ok...

Sporadic rough running in neutral and idle

Asking for my brother on this one. It’s a 2009 60 hp mercury EFI. As the subject line says, it runs rough (not so much as a cough/sputtering, but more of shake/knock…like not running smoothly). It does this sporadically, hot or cold. More often when it first starts it has this symptom and then...

    RPM at cranking speed

You need (I think) to test the ohm’s for each component (stator, trigger, mercury switch, ignition switch) as per the service manual for your specific engine in order to determine if they are functioning correctly…..I think….I’m not an expert.

    RPM at cranking speed

Thanks for the input. From what I can understand from the service manual, a DVA is useful in some situations. The DVA is used to help isolate which component you need to test but not used to test a specific component. A more time consuming route is to test each component. AND, I think if you...

    RPM at cranking speed

My engine doesn’t have the mercury tilt switch….I think previous owner removed it

    RPM at cranking speed

I gave the black stator. As I mentioned, I think if you do all the component tests (and you are confident in your tests) it only leaves the switch box as the issue.

    RPM at cranking speed

Must have been a nerve racking trip!! I’ll test the low speed by cranking and see what I get. I’m getting more confident that it is the switch box
