1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Tank strips went in yesterday, and we got the tank in this morning. I glued it down with 3M 5200 and before the deck install Sunday I need to get the wood support pieces over the tank done, PB the PVC pipes, and add just a few more cleats. So far so good :)

First layer of gel coat went on this morning. Aluminum tray was installed along with the left side of deck cleats, but I think I may add a few more just to be safe. The fuel tank area is only getting one layer of waxed GC, with it being such a tight squeeze I don't want to make it worse.

Well we didn't get as much done as we hoped today, but it was still pretty productive. The worst part of the day was spending grinding to make the fuel tank fit. I spent about 3 hours working on it, grinding, putting the tank in, pulling it out, regrinding, etc. and for some reason the corners...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Stringers and bulkheads all capped finally, and we finished the back panels as well. I ended up covering the bulkhead ends and areas that seemed a little resin started with a thin layer of PB. I also went and picked up a piece of conduit to run the motor fuel line and fuel senders through...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Pushing to get everything finished this weekend so we can move forward finally. Glassed in all 24 corner pieces this morning while the admiral capped the ski locker and start of the 1st bulkhead (ran out of clips lol). Tomorrow we'll finish all capping, grind out the fuel tank area, and then go...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

I’m trying Rem, at this point we’d love to have it in the water within a month and a half. The biggest issue I think is just simplifying a few of the problems I have at the moment and not overthinking them... for instance this whole gas tank situation lol. A few other problems that need...

Thanks BC! Just finished the 2nd 5 gallon bucket and the tabbing is all finished up. Just need to go back through and add one layer on the corners and we're all good to go.

I went over those areas over and over and OVER again with resin, they still just happen to look like that kcassells. I can't possibly think of any areas actually starved of resin at this point, considering I've used almost 5 gallons to get to where I'm at with the layups The corners of the gas...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Thanks JASinIL2006, got about as much glassing as I could in after work today. I wanted to be done with it, but I'm just over measuring and cutting fiberglass for the day. The other part that stinks is the resin it's taking to glass this 2215. At this point I'm about 3 gallons into my 2nd...

Front stringers and first bulkhead completely tabbed in, holy resin usage.

Woke up at 5:30 this morning to turn the heaters on, and it still wasn’t warm enough by 8:00 to start tabbing. I ended up opening the door from the house to the garage and by 10:00 we were ready to go. It took my wife and I about 2 hours to get 2 layers on both sides of the front, and I’m hoping...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Thanks Eric! I wanted to get out this morning and start tabbing, but unfortunately there's just no way even with 2 heaters to warm the garage up that quickly before work. Either way PBing the stringers and bulkheads is completely finished, and the ball valve is installed on the PVC. The 1 1/2"...

Outsides of the wood all finished up. Went out and picked up a ball valve for the bilge area, hadn't decided if I'm planning on doing anymore tonight or not it's still up for debate lol.

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Had to turn the heaters on and wait a few hours before starting up today. Got about 95% of the left side filleted, and I'm gonna let that kick off for a bit before going back to do the other side later. I also need to do the insides but I figured start with one outside, then the other, then work...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

This morning I got out and started the stringer/bulkhead bedding. For some reason some of the bulkheads had raised up just high enough that I didn't feel comfortable using PL, so I did the entire bilge area, aft gas compartment, and the outside of the gas compartment. I took a sheet of ply after...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Checked a few things off the list this morning. Transom received two layers of 2215, both went on pretty smooth but the ol' air bubbles started giving me some problems. Ladder support and hull backing piece were both PB'd in by my wife, who has now been promoted to Senior Chief Petty peanut...

Always! Wanted to finish the night out right so I decided to go back out and finish contouring the curves with a little bit extra peanut butter. Here's the end product.

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Great day of work on the boat today. Got out this morning to soak the end grain and both sides of the bulkheads/stringers. Moved on to getting the PVC pipe/U-bolt PVC peanut buttered, then glassed in. Finished off with gluing in the transom and getting some peanut butter in around that, although...

1993 Chaparral Gemini 190: Chronicles of a New Boat Owner (Deck Rebuild) [SPLASHED June 2018]

Got some good work in today. -Made all the notches for bulkheads/stringers -PL'd the PVC pipe in (holes were drilled throughout it to allow for hypothetical drainage) -Machined the PVC replacement for the front U-bolt to drill into Didn't get a chance to start on the peanut butter, but...
