Lots of life stuff this week to keep me away from the boat. Happy 70th birthday to my dad. For the better part of the week all I managed to do was put another hole in the boat. I also cut up the splashweel to get the cap on with the new transom.

Not much to update, I managed to get the second layer of tabbing in on the transom. Also wrastled the cap back on to check the fit and see which side needed more grinding. I doubt ill get lucky enough for it to fit once I remove the devil from the splash-well, but heres hoping anyway. Hey...

Ive still got another layer of tabbing to add to the transom, but ill have to get some more grinding done before i can get that in. the install went all-right except for the one pot of resin that gelled on me. I guess im just going to have to slow down and baby sit each square foot till it...

Its official, I am a fiberglass No-Go.I did manage to get the transom in, but it isnt pretty. Ive got a ton more glass over the wood than the factory used, but the layup is just as imperfect. Ive got to say that tabbing and CSM is by far the worst part of the job.

Got my fingers wet last night. Made some small test fillets with filler between the hull and transom skin, and then covered them with CSM and resined them over. Well.... more or less sloped some goop at them, and then tried to comb down the hairy mess. Honestly I was nervous and was pretty...

Took a break last week and went with the family on vacation to western Michighan. Managed to get the side stringers roughed in, since we got back. Im no where near as diligent or patient as Nurseman, but using his method and my sloppy fabrication technique, I got them close enough for now. I...

Meh.... Ive been called worse. Doesn't help that my manual appears to be incomplete. This photo is from post #9. What you don't see here is the the small metal plunger that fits on the bottom of the shaft. It has a ball end that seems to seat into the plastic holder on the bottom of the shaft...

Well I learned something today about the solenoids that may be the source of my problems, besides oil volume. So the solenoids have been removed 2X and probably not seated correctly either time. JoeReeves says the plunger should set below the solenoid by 1/64". I know when i slapped mine...

I know the proper procedure is to fill from the bottom, but i havnt bought a pump with locking nozzle yet. I filled from the top as best i could with the lower unit on the bench. not ideal but it sort of worked. My manual is a johnson and says the gearcase needs 37.2 oz of tyupe C fluid.

2 days of work in the hot sun several dollars spent and all i have to show for it is 1.5 stringers glued up. I tried to follow Nursemans methods for making stingers, but i dont have near enough clamps or patience for that level of work. I did manage to get the admiral to help out today, after...

Still gesticulating on these. I did manage to get the entire motor moved to my garage for more regular experimentation. For option 3 I believe the extra transistor is to change the expected reluctor signal to an simple momentary switch. The way i understand it the reluctor provides a...

The rain let up for a few hours saturday, so i finished my multiuse gantry's. Managed to get the transom cut up and glued together today between storms, and worked on my amplifier circuit some. I guess ill have to concentrate on forming my stringers over the next 2 weeks, then ill be fully...

Thanks F_R Im guessing it wont work out, but i have to try. How far did you manage to get with it? I got the PCB out, but there was a part that was embedded in the aluminum that i broke out and haven't dug out of the case yet. Ive managed to de-pot the majority of it without significant...

Im guessing wont be too many here interested in this but i thought id document my failures anyhow. I have (2) of these. Both have disintegrated wiring, and have not run for many years. Dad and I played with one a few years ago, trying to convert to a better or at least simpler ignition...

Few more hours tonight...... Man this hull is pock marked as bad as the moon with holes and junk. I guess im going to give in and call it FD on the grind for the hull. I think im better off patching this junk rather than cleaning to the gel. Other than that got a transom template mocked up...

I guess let me put your minds at ease for now, im not concerned about cost at this point. i have an alterior motive, and possibly a test subject. I built a small utility trailer a few years ago. The Admiral and I haul ouselves and 3 kids to Michigan every summer from Tulsa. Us, the kids and...

ERRGH, finally got done with the initial grind down on the hull and transom. Ive got some problem areas that need more attention, but shouldn't be too much more grinding before i can start failing at fiberglass installation. At any rate i can at least begin forming the transom and stringers...

Short update, I managed to clean the rest of the rock/devil (im not so convinced its zolatone) off the transom, Im getting alot closer. I still have to finish some grinding on the hull and decide how far to grind out the keel cracks. I can probably get the last of it on my next grinding...

So now i know the truth, all these years Ive believed that the devil inhabited some cruel and fiery netherworld, when all along he was holding my fathers boat together. Thanks for all the encouragement guys, i appreciate it. I don't have much to show for my weekend. i managed to hand chisel the...

Rough evening on the boat. I started sanding down the transom, and at first i wasn't getting very far, but then cracks in the remaining material seemed to grow and grow while i was working. Eventually small pieces of the junk the manufacturer put between the wood and the fiberglass started to...
