The PO stated that he replaced the carb so it's possible the jetting isn't to spec. How much would you jet up?

Okay, so timing is good. And yes the plugs have about an hour or two total on them. They're practically brand new. Think it's safe to just run the boat for a bit now? I will add that on the first acceleration of the day out of no wake, it will bog under immediate throttle. If you ease into...

A few plug pics after a high throttle / WOT run. I still hear some chatter / rattle at higher RPMs. Not sure if it really is knock or not

Was able to get out with my digital timing light to check advance. I have base timing set at 1BTDC according to this timing tab. At 2600 RPM with my timing gun set to 23 degrees, the timing mark was showing around 8BTDC . When I turned my timing gun to 28 degrees , the timing mark was about on...

I should be getting out with the digital timing light in the next day or two to check the advance. In the meantime I pulled the fuel pickup to check for any blockages and check the anti-siphon valve. The valve is moving freely, however, there is no filter in the pickup tube. Is this a cause for...

Thanks guys, just ordered OEM transom seal repair kit from quicksilver. Digital timing light coming this weekend will update with the advance numbers and try a higher octane fuel for troubleshooting purposes

Firing order is correct, double checked when I installed new dist cap. I can try some sandpaper but it is a bit rusted as well.. Was just going off the notches in relation to the manual. As for the leak, I inspected my bellows and noticed some light cracking. Do these need to be replaced? The...

I also managed to get this still image from a video I took. Here you can see my timing mark, this is where I set it in base timing and still have pinging.

Hmm, my timing tab looks slightly different than that one and I used this diagram from the manual. If I was supposed to use the diagram above my base timing would be one degree advanced... Motor is a 91. I can try to retard it by a degree and see how it runs unless someone knows for sure which...

Will get a digital light to check advance. PO drained fuel and put fresh in it he said. When I replaced the filter I poured some into a glass and it looked ok, it all evaporated out and didn't see any water left. No major gunk but wasn't crystal clear. Carb screen was very clean.

The pinging starts right at 9-10 seconds but I agree it is hard to hear. Sounds like bbs in a tin can. I tried checking the timing advance but I need to read up more on how to check the total timing at 23 degrees. From what I can see the timing tab doesn't go that far BTDC so I am unsure how I...

Side note: Is this too much water out of the bilge after a few hours on the water? Seems to accumulate more with riding. https://photos.app.goo.gl/nzmQUaYqQgCN1w8LA

Got the dongle in and got out to set base timing. Set at 1BTDC as per my engine serial. Still have the pinging at WOT, anything up to about 80 percent throttle is golden and I cruised at 70 percent for a while with no issues. Not that I will ride at WOT often/ever but it still irks me that it...

Got my timing gun and got some time to head out and check timing. I can't figure how to put the motor in base timing mode, there are no connectors on my dizzy where you're supposed to jump the white wires. Will attach a photo. The only wire there is from the shift interrupt switch. Anyways I...

Hmm, I am assuming slightly advanced timing can't cause that lean condition. The carb is clean and the inline filter on it looked clean too, so I was thinking fuel system was fine. I did replace the fuel line from tank to pump, but it ended up being a few inches longer. Not sure if that would...

Pulled the plugs today and it seems that they show some signs of detonation. At least they were very very hot. I'll post some pics. I also stuck a cheap "inspection camera" into the cylinders to see what I could. Nothing jumped out at me and the camera is pretty poor quality but doesn't seem to...

Okay thanks. Will try to get to timing it this week. Could the detonation events have caused any serious / permanent damage? Anything I should check?

Will get a timing light and check. Does boat need to be in the water to check or on muffs is fine? It could be from being lean but I don't recall it making this sound under WOT before I pulled this dist and I have went through the carb since. Very clean

Thank you guys for all your help. Today I replaced the dist cap, rotor, all spark wires and the ignition module. Boat started right up and runs great. Only concern I have is that at WOT there is a distinct pinging/ticking nose from the motor. It only happens at 90% or above throttle. Also...
