Buying a used boat anxiety-talk me down.

I'm not well versed in boats but would like to add my two cents. I owned a used fiberglass canoe for years and sold it for more than I paid. It was still in good shape no problems. The floor still held it's shape. I started a couple years ago searching for a boat/trailer/motor combo, something...

How to tell the finish on a hull?

Just wondering on my '78 if it was refinished with gel coat or paint? The PO told me the guy he got the boat from redid the outside of the hull. At least the blue striping on the white base looks new. I know if there was a chip in the finish I could tell but there isn't any. I have some screw...

No start after rewiring alternator 4.3 Mercruiser

LOL Thanks! I was considering using a switch if I ever get to the point of having a second battery and a trolling motor. Just wanted to make sure I was going down the right path.

    Getting out of the boat

Well I've never seen signs here regarding power loading. Where I've always been fishing none of the boat ramps even have docks. Most have just dirt ramps a couple do have a cement slab reaching out into the water. Guess I'll be getting wet, oh well, and holding my boat with the anchor while I...

    Perch spots near CLE

Here in NH I always seem to find perch somewhat in the shallows especially under lily pads. It doesn't seem to make a difference on the water temp for some reason. Google is your friend... "Fishing for perch in Cleveland"...

    Livewell Light color

I know someone that used one low watt white light for his. He mounted under a flap so to speak so it pointed down. Wasn't to bright to mess up night vision. Yes red works best for our night vision, but does make seeing things a bit difficult. Dim blue could work and make seeing things a bit...

    Replacing Transom on aluminum boat...

Is the wood sandwiched between 2 pieces of aluminum? Is the wood being bolted to the inside of the boat with just the one piece of aluminum? If the 2nd one then why not just drill some dibbits in the wood to allow the rivets and bolts to be counter sunk in? A picture would be really helpful!

No start after rewiring alternator 4.3 Mercruiser

Silly question, because this is all new to me. Couldn't one of those 2 battery switches be used? Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Ampper-1-2-Both-Off-Battery-Disconnect-Isolator/dp/B07PN9CT9H/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=boat+2+battery+switch&qid=1621446233&s=automotive&sr=1-3

No start after rewiring alternator 4.3 Mercruiser

According to Blue Sea's website: What is an ACR? An ACR parallels (combines) batteries during charging, and isolates them when charging has stopped and after battery voltage has fallen. An ACR is intended to keep a load from discharging both of the batteries. I couldn't find a wiring diagram. :(

    Torsion axle question

I'm thinking if you drill a hole it'll start rusting inside the channel. I vote for filling the void.

Would this work as a kicker motor?

Just spotted a mid 60's Mercury 3.9 HP with hose and gas tank at a great price. Seller claims it was totally serviced in 2019 and never used since, he uses an electric trolling motor. Was wondering if it would work as a kicker motor for my boat in signature? If my main motor fails will this get...

    1997 Bluewater cracks in gelcoat

I'd keep an eye on it. It's probably due to weakened old fiberglass structure combined with the heat and flex as alldodge mentioned.

    Boat and trailer length

You can believe what you want. I've been an auto tech for over 40 years, I've learned a thing or two. Air shocks were used for both raising the back of cars for clearance of wide tires in wheel wells (old muscle car days). Also for increasing the load capacity of a vehicle. Is it the correct way...

    1997 Bluewater cracks in gelcoat

Just curious... is that an original finish or a redone? I'm not a boat expert by any means but in my automotive experience it looks like a repaint. I've seen problems with Corvette and truck cap paint jobs with smaller but similar cracks. The finish coat does not flex the same as the underlying...

    Boat and trailer length

In the first pic it looks like the trailer has bunks. I would try lowering them so the boat just clears the trailer frame. See if that will let the boat start to float before your truck gets to deep in the water. If not, in pic 2 possibly extending the tongue will solve the problem in...

    Boat and trailer length

Misconception - shocks do NOT support the weight of the vehicle or load. That is the purpose/job of the springs. The shocks are for controlling bouncing. 25 year old shocks, long over due for replacing. If the back of the truck is sitting lower than it used to then the springs are worn out and...

I would probably install the vents. I'd rather play it safe than take a chance especially with kids sitting that close.

    Boat weight capacity plate

Not really accurate especially for Max HP. It claims my boat/hull size is only rated for a 15HP. My boat plate says 90HP.
