    Remove the thermostat. Inspect the interior and exterior of the thermostat housing. Housing being an integral cast part of the block.

    I would think a sticky bush button momentarily on switch would be more likely to be the cause of the relay acting up.

    But when a non OEM product is 80% as good as the OEM product, but a quarter of the price, it might make sense to go non OEM.

    Have you independently tested the relay by directly jumpering battery to it? While observing the power circuit with an ohm/continuity meter.

    Have you looked at the kit that Yamaha has available for what I am guessing to be your motor? I am not seeing a neutral safety switch in your illustration.

    No solenoid used on that starter motor. A starter motor relay provides battery power to the starter motor.

    What is the complete model identity of the motor? If a four stroke it will start with a T or an F with some other letters that follow the 9.9.
