1958 Evinrude 18hp Fastwin electric start

What kind of fuel tank do I need with this motor? Also, if anyone has experience with this motor, is it a good one? It is in great shape, and looks awesome for almost 60 years old.

Johnson 1961 3HP wont speed up

I got this little motor started after new plugs, new wires and boots, new points and condensers, new coils, new impeller and new oil. With fresh gas and fresh oil in the mix, it started right up. But the adjustments for the jets seemed to make no difference. What you don't see in the video, is...

    Is a 1965 Johnson 3Hp a good motor?

Thinking about buying this little motor. What are the pitfalls, and what should I be watchful of besides the regular stuff? The guy is asking $150.00 and says it has all the parts and is in good to very good condition. I am thinking about offering $75.00 is that fair? What else should go with...

    '61 Crestliner Arabian Deluxe resto

Well after many months in the "Johnson outboard" repair forum. The engine is done! (anyone who wants to see that can follow the other thread) Now on to the boat. I promised that I would start a thread here so here I am. I also noticed a thread in the instruction sticky, that had before and after...

    My Johnson is leaking

There is a weird hole on the port side of the engine. I am pointing to it with the screwdriver in the photo. It only leaks after a test run in the tank. It is leaking an oily fluid. Where is this coming from?

    The beast comes to life!!!!

The motor is now running. Is the clear fuel bowl supposed to be full all the time? I think I have an air leak in the primer ball. Click the link to see the motor running, sometimes it sputters or backfires a bit. I think it is starving for gas. 1959 Johnson Super Sea Horse "Fat 50" - YouTube

Should the prop be off the motor when running in a tank?

I am going to test the engine this weekend. I am going to have the lower unit submerged in a trash can. Do I need to take off the prop? and I am also going to seafoam it. I thought that I'd put some in the trash can water and some in the fuel mix. What are the pros and cons of seafoam?

Was this trailer made at a facory, or is it a frankentrailer?

March-April 20013 127 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Can anyone identify this trailer? Someone painted it an awesome "special" blue color over everything including the rust. I think it says COX on the fender if you look real close right above the wheel. I would like to know what year it is too. When...

    Spark plugs and wires

On the 1959 Johnson Super Sea Horse 50 HP, do the plug wires "screw in" to the distributor cap? I have tried to get them out but the tip became detached and is stuck in there. I have to get it out of there and I don't want to try the others if they screw in. I am replacing all the wires if I can...

    Starter lug broke off!

While rewiring the motor, I noticed that the lug was loose on the side of the starter. When I touched it, the dang thing fell off. Does anyone know how to re-attach it?

    Lifting the Johnson

I have a 1959 Johnson super sea horse 50 HP, yes the famous gas hog. I hav never lifted an outboard before, but I have all the equipment to do it from my other "projects". Is the Bail wire at the top of the motor what I use to lift it? And an unrelated electrical question.....the plug connecting...
