My carb is obsolete.. Please help me repair/replace!

IF you run 10% ethanol gas just watch the age of the gas in the tank, lines and carb. I make sure I turn mine fuel over to fresh at least every six months which is never a problem as boating draws me like moth to flame.

Frozen engine manifold cracks and likelihood of block survival

For the dealer to be suprised could be a sign of more troubling issues to come if you stay in the relationship. I'd be very wary if you chose to go forward.

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

I did take it all apart. I'm going to clean it, lubricate and reassemble. I did replace it with a new one(Arco) though. Starting sounds much better with new starter.

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

I didn't take a long shot of the 1218 but its impressive machine. I found this ranking of the biggest locomotives. The 1218 'for its size' and date of introduction was a powerful locomotive. Locomotive Type Configuration Length Weight Tractive Effort N&W 1218 Steam 2-6-6-4 121 ft 9.25 in...

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

This is where the water intrusion did its magic to stop starter from working any longer. 3 of the four brushes were corroded in the holder preventing good contact with the commuter. Starter worked for a good number of starts after flooding but it slowly devolved to a no start. I soaked them...

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

New boss is about 1/4" taller than oem removed. Better taller than shorter to a point. I checked before installing that I had all threads outside boss. I follow an active marine mechanic forum(facebook) and some there are saying new arco's come with new bolts but this one didn't. Some of...

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

Ok no blue. Got it back together and hand tightened till stop turning with a good amount of force. Arco takes more pride in their starters judging by fit, finish and packaging. Thanks for feedback.

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

They were in there pretty tight. The one on crank side is easier get to for removal and get torque wrench on. The one nearer starboard is difficult either way. The arc swing just clears floor of engine compartment. A crow foot adapter on torque wrench might fit. Would you use thread...

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

Not sure how I can get a torque wrench on one bolt without lifting motor partially out which isn't happening. What does knurling do to the bolt?

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

I ended up deciding on the ARCO, after having ordered the DB. Will return the DB. Found the ARCO for 178... from Hodges Marine. Arco is epoxy coated whereas DB is unpainted. I run in salt once a year for 2-4 weeks remainder fresh and uncoated wasn't good. DB has a decent quality reputation but...

    5.0GXi Starter Replacement

Whats a good starter for a 5.0 GXi? I'm seeing 3 that stand out. DB Electrical cheapest 85.00.... I've read some opinions that they have decent starters. Bought one for my garden tractor and its worked well. Arco Marine 260.00 OEM VP Leaders Marine 320.00 One I'm replacing sucumbed to full...

Effect of partial submersion of 5.0 GXI. Effect on Power Steering, Starter, crank sensor.

Scott, What type of fluid is suggested. FiveStar has note at bottom recommending AW32 or AW35(warm climate). This is a hydraulic fluid. 5* says that atf is too thin and too much detergent and solvent level which effects seals. VP recommends their brand or Dextron II or III. What would you...

Effect of partial submersion of 5.0 GXI. Effect on Power Steering, Starter, crank sensor.

Your talking about the cotter pin that secures the 15/16" bolt at bottom? I saw that on a youtube video on removal and it was a bear for him. I went down after seeing that and was able to remove easily. A benefit of fresh water use 95% of the time I expect.

Effect of partial submersion of 5.0 GXI. Effect on Power Steering, Starter, crank sensor.

The rack is leaking, Blown seal not sure. Edit to add fluid can be seeping out of rack where actuator rod goes in/out. Looks like that seal is blown maybe See video. Thanks Thats pricey. Leaders shows it $ 800 plus. I see seal kits so replacing them is option. I rebuilt a PS pump and more...
