    1979 Starcraft American Offshore 22’

For every tin boat StarCraft made, they basically had an identical fiberglass model available beside it

    Seafoam vs. Marine Pro Seafoam

It works okay as a decarbonizer, which isn’t what it was designed for. Water itself can work okay as a decarbonizer though

    Seafoam vs. Marine Pro Seafoam

Seafoam was invented to keep outboard fuel fresh in the 30s. It’s in the name. Fuel is much different today to where the product doesn’t do what it should, and it may never have.. but regardless you don’t need the marine version as the original was the marine version. It’s pale oil, alcohol and...

    2 Stroke Oil Thread

Oil that is not TCW3 rated is actually better oil. Air cooled 2 strokes need oil that burns off at a higher temperature. Theoretically that means that in a water cooled engine, all of the oil that should burn off, will not. Lawn Boy ( OMC owned/ invented until the 80s ) had their own brand of...

Penta 280 outdrive to mercedes om648

As Scott said. Hooking it up with an available adapter is just nuts and bolts. But you cannot run a dry exhaust. Figure out your cost to marinize the engine with wet exhaust. Keep in mind that production manifolds start at $1k in general

Penta 280 outdrive to mercedes om648

Marine manifolds for that engine doesn’t exist unless you find something in some corner of Europe/Germany. You can’t safely run dry exhaust. That is your first hurdle. Mercedes diesels are great though.

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

If I recall it was a $5k buyout. Many cars were sold well below that value even in good condition. A lot of them were junkers yes, but a lot were just worth less.

    Trailer Tongue Too Long?

Nah. 3 on the tree is easy. Ford had a 4spd on the column and many brands in Japan had 5spd column shift for their domestic market utility trucks. I wouldn’t even attempt one of them

making your own gaskets / seals

Auto parts store usually has paper gasket material. That would work. In a pinch, a paper bag and gasket shellac will work, and Manila card stock as well. That said I haven’t made a gasket in years, and I actually just ran across a huge sheet of perforated MLS gasket I had somewhere that I’m...

Old style cable vs new style cable. Both are widely available.

Reminder to check gear before towing.

My boat doesn’t have any storage onboard that won’t blow out, so I keep all that stuff in the truck. I don’t worry about the anchor. That stays, and the Bimini stays in the down position, strapped down

Already have passenger planes being flown as drones ?

Planes have had autopilot for a longgggggg time. They have had landing beacons at most airports that make landing partially automated since the 80s or 90s. I’m no pilot but I’ve watched an episode or 2 of air disasters. I also don’t fly

The cable actually only locks and unlocks park. Some transmissions do that electronically but they always have the provision on the top of the transmission. We have a transmission unlock tool that actuates the lever. A zip tie can do the same thing. It’s only useful on the electronically...

Yeah the console shifted trucks have an electronic shifter which is very similar to what Mopar has used in the recent past. Buick and Cadillac also use the same style shifter…. You can still buy a column shifted Chevy truck though. Now most of the GM cars have a stalk mounted shifter similar...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

It’s funny. I have a 1951 Plymouth which when it was new it had some of the latest features. Automatic choke, turn key start and electric wipers were available along with overdrive available one year later. I’m going to find a NOS electric wiper motor for mine as it doesn’t have it. Also...

    Spark Plug suggestions!

Autolite 2852 is very close. The problem is that Champion had a handle On the marine plugs for a long time, so The OEM marine rated plugs sometimes do not have a direct match if you venture outside of the spec plug and just try to cross it

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

As far as the automatic parking brake. It does suck but it’s also convenient at the exact same time. If it senses the vehicle rolling, it locks automatically and touching the gas on most vehicles pulls it off automatically, so on a boat ramp you’ll never actually forget.. but it sucks when you...

If GM make sure you keep receipts and note when you did them. GM will not warranty a transmission without proof of service

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

It’s 48k miles I think for severe duty. Any towing, plowing, heavy haul OR very low temperatures or high temperatures are considered severe duty per GM. I do them all the time. They are good transmissions until they aren’t but keeping up with maintenance sure helps
