I just ordered and got a cheapie. Last time I was out on my boat with my dad trolling around he swore he smelled gas. I’m pretty sure the portable tank for the kicker was just venting a little where he could smell it. I couldn’t find any fumes multiple times even after I pulled it out of storage again with the mooring cover… the little sensor seems to be pretty sensitive and cost $20.

We have a GMI unit and some handhelds with LEL sensors in them. I spend more than 20$ in calibration gases for them a month. I think the $20 unit is a no brainer for piece of mind.

Weird how the handhelds are so nice and cheap yet the simplest install it yourself mounted setups start at an exponentially higher price I noticed. I'll probably just do the handheld for now. Do like the idea of an integral sensor with helm console indicator though.. Remember seeing actual mounted analog gauges for this on older boats vs just an alert piezo with a light and switch. Went out of style like the marine manifold vacuum gauge maybe! 🦕😅
