    Johnson 6hp 1969 model 6r 69m - 1 carb works, another doesn't

Trying to fix broken small outboards is kind of a hobby for me - I got some from my marine mechanic. I don't use this motor on my boat. I'm just trying to learn. I'd like to understand why this carb doesn't work.

    Johnson 6hp 1969 model 6r 69m - 1 carb works, another doesn't

This motor ran fine a couple years ago. I tried starting it and it would only run if I primed it, and stopped after a few seconds after the fuel was used up. I put another carb from an Evinrude on it - exactly the same carb - and it runs fine. Starts readily and idles good. Before trying the...

Fuel Nipple on Carb Broke (Johnson 60hp)

Hi boatgreg, I'm hoping you or others can help me understand something. My 87 Johnson 50 starts readily and idles fine, but once on the water under load it dies. I thought a carb cleaning may solve the problem, so I attempted it myself. On removing the hose from the small nipple on the lower...

    Lower unit won't drop on a 1987 Johnson 50

I'm making my first attempt at changing the impeller. I've removed the brass shift connector and the 5 bolts holding the lower unit, but contrary to youtube videos I've watched, it still won't drop. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

    Ok - I understand.

    Johnson LD-12A 5hp prop removal

I finally got it off with a gear puller. The inside of the prop appears to be tapered, and it fits over a non-taper cylinder that looks like some kind of hard rubber.

    Johnson LD-12A 5hp prop removal

Thanks gentlemen. I'll try to slide it off. Doesn't appear to have been used in saltwater.

    Johnson LD-12A 5hp prop removal

Thanks for the info racerone. If it's not threaded, how the hell to I get it off? I'm in Seattle.

    Johnson LD-12A 5hp prop removal

Somebody in the neighborhood left out a Johnson LD-12A 5hp (1967 I think). I took it home, and after some carb cleaning and new needle valve and seat it runs pretty good. It needs a new prop, and for the life of me, I can't get it off. It is on a threaded drive shaft - there was a nut that...

    Johnson 6hp 1969 model 6r 69m

The trolling motor I use is a relatively new Tohatsu 6hp. It doesn't appear to have a toothed flywheel, although I haven't taken the pull start assembly off. I'm pretty sure an electric start requires a toothed flywheel - correct?

    Johnson 6hp 1969 model 6r 69m

Thanks for the response. Yes, I'm talking about modifying it to have an electric start. The pull starter it has works fine. I'm thinking of using this as a trolling motor. My 72 yo shoulder has rotator cuff issues and I'd rather not be pulling starter cords.

Does anyone know what kind of starter motors would work in this outboard?

Ok Fleet Admiral. I'm out of here.

75/75 I found this pictures of the tiller handle showing Stop.

1969 6r69m 6hp Starts, idles, revs real high, then dies

I have one of these I bought for $50 and got running pretty good. How do you stop it? I don't see a kill switch, and the tiller handle is no longer readable. I just turn the throttle all the way down and it dies on it's own (I said it runs pretty good - not great).

Thermostat assembly for J8RXSSB Johnson 8hp outboard

It's a hobby for me too, I'm retired - so I'm not doing it to make money as an objective. However, if I can sell some of these motors - good. By tinkering with these, I'm also learning to work on the motors on my fishing boat - a 1987 Johnson 50 and a 2015 Tohatsu 6. Marine mechanics charge an...

Thermostat assembly for J8RXSSB Johnson 8hp outboard

Can you tell me how to determine compatibility of this thermostat with oems, sierra, etc. models? I only paid $50 for it, and it's missing the cowling, so I'd need to find one of those to sell it. Neither crowleymarine or marineengine has one, and the old price was $250, so I wouldn't pay that...

Thermostat assembly for J8RXSSB Johnson 8hp outboard

I bought some old outboards from my marine mechanic. This one runs fine - has a good tell tale, but it was missing the thermostat when I got it. Any idea where I can get one cheaper than the one on marineengine.com? - its $80. Thanks
