I found one on marineengine.com for $80 but don't want to spend that much. Does anyone know where I can find one cheaper, or another one that is compatible?

Thanks!

I bought some old outboards from my marine mechanic. This one runs fine - has a good tell tale, but it was missing the thermostat when I got it. Any idea where I can get one cheaper than the one on marineengine.com? - its $80.

Thanks

well if you did not pay a great deal for the engine... $80 isn't so bad .
aside from EBay stuff or amazon chineese OEM is your best bet .
Sierra may have some.

Can you tell me how to determine compatibility of this thermostat with oems, sierra, etc. models?

I only paid $50 for it, and it's missing the cowling, so I'd need to find one of those to sell it. Neither crowleymarine or marineengine has one, and the old price was $250, so I wouldn't pay that even they had one in stock. It has good compression and spark - the fuel pump works. I can't get over how good it runs, I just don't know what to do with it.

Thanks Crosbyman!

buying restoring older 3-10hp outboards is not really a big money maker.
As a hobby I buy around 75-100$CDN I winter refurbish carb, ignition and gear oil to keep busy and sold several at $150 ... no profit really if one considers parts nad labor.... just happy boaters.

no big loss as I don't play 5-10 rounds of golf ! or smoke!.

I doubt you will find much below $50 for much of anything unless chineese stuff and they have no cowls

no cig$ pays for everything. :)

It's a hobby for me too, I'm retired - so I'm not doing it to make money as an objective. However, if I can sell some of these motors - good. By tinkering with these, I'm also learning to work on the motors on my fishing boat - a 1987 Johnson 50 and a 2015 Tohatsu 6. Marine mechanics charge an obscene amount of money.

I'll change the impeller on the Johnson at the end of the fishing season - and hopefully won't screw it up.

I have a Nissan 5 1 cylinder that runs good. I put that on our neighborhood website (Seattle) for $400, but no takers so far. I'll probably lower it to $300. Maybe that's too much? (see picture).

btw I smoke 2 small cigars a day - after lunch and dinner.

Thanks for your response.
