Went out on my maiden voyage today with my new 03 F225 yamaha and she ran perfect in the harbor smooth as silk, once out of the 5mph zone cranked her up ran great for 3- 4min at 5500 rpm then started to cut out like starving for fuel.......brought it down to around 4400 runs good..... no problems starting or running at mid or low rpm//

I have a new water separator / fuel filter.
Checked the fuel filter on the motor seems clean,
Pulled the fuel tank pick up tube, clean,,,

This is my first four stroke and not really sure what to look for....

check fuel system vacum, check fuel rail pressure at the trouble RPM.
either you have a restriction in the hull side ,the VST filter is clogged or an injector screen is clogged.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It ran fine at 5500 for a few minutes?

I did notice that when I was back at the dock the fuel ball was soft?

Is the VST filter basically like my two stroke was? I did clean that once.

one more thing I had noticed that the fuel line is very tight and could not even pull any slack at all where it runs through the rubber rigging grommet before it goes through the rigging tube.

after all the work it was to rig it and fix the trims and water pump issue I thought finaly it was worth al the work then this happened today was really bummed......

thats why its called maint, your F225 is every bit a precision machine as any NHRA or NASCAR rig, you dont see them running 6 month old fuel nor letting the car it 6 months or better and then roll it out on the track.
fuel, especially todays garbage, doesnt last that long.
even with stabil when its first placed in the tank we see about 3 months tops then its going downhill.
rigging fails, rubber parts fail.
thats why I say you will need to run a fuel system vacum check while also runnig a pressure rail check, if system vacum is acceptable and rail pressure is not it narrows everything down.
there is also another small pre filter for the VST that can clog.
its a pain to change so no one ever does.
I see this all the time, folks try to hustle things and take short cuts cause they were told it ran great, and it may have 6 months to a year ago when it was removed from the last hull.
yes removing the VST on the F225 is a pain yet it has to be done periodically to clean the pump screen.
takes about 2 hours and 3 ounces of blood I found.
back of the left hand well get a bit of a chewing.

Hi,

Checked the fuel system from hoses to fuel pressure. It was the VST tank filter!!

After checking everthing took her out did the same thing ran great to about 4500 then started to choke for gas...went back to the dock, pulled the VST tank (it seemed easier than my 2 stroke) about 30min? looked at the small filter screen at the bottom of the pump and I could hardly see through it? Looked like a clear varnish like substance and some black dirt. Got some carb cleaner gave it a few shots all clean

Put it all back together she cranks all the way to 5500....man this motor is unreal, can not even tell its running at idle and seems to have much more torque than my 2 stroke she plows thought the waves, it a beast!
and my gas gauge hardly moved!

How could anyone not love the 4 strokes.?????

should have made the switch years ago...

Now too get some monster stripers!!!!
