I'm going this afternoon to look at this motor on a boat for sale. There is no water available to test run. Is there any tests I can do dry without damaging the water pump or anything else?
Thank you

Put the engine on muffs and crank it up and do a compression test on a warm engine, plugs out, full throttle, screw in compression gauge. Numbers should be over 100 psi and within 10 psi of each other. Check water pump output. Bear in mind that engines that may seem to run well on muffs might not in the water under load. Check lower unit oil for water.

Keep in mind the Chrysler could be hard to get parts for and may be difficult to find a shop that will work on it.
If you can get us a model number we can figure the age.Even if it checks out good think long and hard before you purchase.

Hi Beach
Your motor is a 1969 model. Unless you are experienced with outboards and can make repairs yourself,I would heed the others advice. A motor isn't a motor until it runs. From your description this is nothing more than a heap of junk that looks like and outboard. I can just about guarantee it will cost more to repair that it is worth. All that said, if your looking for a challenging project and you know this, this may be your deal.

I have no experience with outboards but have built many automobile engines. I have a lot of patience and love a challenge. My only concern is being able to find parts. Does anyone know a good source?
