105HP Chrysler, 4cyl, Model 10575 (1969?).

I'm helping a friend resurrect this old boat that he has just aquired. With a new set of plugs, fresh fuel and a bit of wiring repair it fired up and runs great but there is no water coming from the upper exhaust ports - I'm assuming it's a water pump problem.

Disconnected the shift rod pin, removed the lower gearhousing bolts (7) - it moves and twists but it's not dropping. I've tried light levering and a rubber mallet, do I need to get more agressive?

What next? Any and all advise appreciated.

Aldo

Clymer manual is pretty generic so this may not pertain to your lower unit. This is for 20-140HP motors. Remove exhaust snout on one-piece gearcases. Reach into the exhaust snout cavity and remove the screw and lockwasher. Other then the bolts holding it to the motor leg and the shifter pin that should be it. Chances are the drive shaft is siezed to the powerhead which will really make the project more interesting. After beating the lower unit silly when it finally comes off make sure you use anti sieze compound on the splines when you put it back together again.

if it moves and twists ya got all the bolts out. there is one that is under the exhaust snout. if you have that one out to then most likly the splines are stuck in the crankshaft.

they can be a beast sometimes.

O/K, I've triple checked, all the bolts are out including the exhaust snout.

I'll try wedges first, then a severe beating, then a match and lots of gasoline

I cant remember if the shaft is visible or not on the old chyslers. if it is you can heat and cool it and pray the rust lets go.
I have a decent 105 unit here with moderatly worn splines you can have if you pay the shipping. in fact I have the complete motor but its in pieces if you need any of it. its in the scrap pile but the scrap man never showed up. no trim and tilt though.

I cracked the lower housing with my enthusiasm with the wedges & hammer - this shaft is stuck solid.

Seeing as its a love job, and a '69 chrysler - it's going to the junkyard.

Pity, it ran well.

Thanks for the offer, rodbolt.

Aldo

You may want to check the zinc if it is located anywhere near the cavitation plate. The service manual didn't point this out. Mine sits above the prop on the cavitation plate.
