my 1970 60 hp johnson idles fine but has fits when i throttle up spits sputters and misses real bad with no speed at all my question is could it be the fuel pump or someting electrical? i had just done a carb cleaning and a tune up on the thing.but didnt help things

did u remove the carb soak it overnight, blow out all the ventricals w/ compressed air, run a small wire thru the high speed ventrical to make sure it was clear? have you check all your hoses for leaks? is you primer bulb arrow pointing toward the engine? have you check spark, compression,? what are the comdition of you coils, cracked , leaking? post model # on transom bracket, just a few questions for starters. welcome to i boats. i'm running a'55 and a '73 rude.

No i didnt soak the carbs overnight but i did clean out all the crevaces and ventricals. i also put new hoses on and cleaned the points real good the compression was within a couple pounds of normal on one and perfect on the other. thanks for your reply i really can use the help.season is coming up quick.

The crud that needs to get cleaned out is in the small internal passages and jets. Surface cleaning will not do it. You need to go back through them and install new carb kits.

so do i redo all three or just the high end carb? the thing idles fine its just when i throttle up?
