My fishing buddy has a 1994 (approx) 115 HP 6 cyl Merc. He started it this spring and it ran fine in the barrel. Took it to lake and it started fine and would rev in neutral but when he put it in gear he could not get any speed. During spring startup he had to replace a blown 20 amp fuse on right side. Having dealt mostly with OMC these Mercs are a little strange to me.
Throttle has full advance when under way but 6-7 MPH is top speed. Appreciate any help

Howdy, Jigger.

Go to www.outboardrepairs.com and enter power loss or no power under load.

Lots of good advice there.

Come back and tell us what you did and how it turned out. :)

Re: 115 HP Mercury is not coming up to speed

Hey JB-

Thanks for the tip on how to use this site. I've been crusing through postings looking for answers. I'm headed to northern Maine to fish for a few days with this motor and hope to be able to apply my experience with outboard repairs to trouble shoot this Merc and get it running. As I suspected the "power loss" link gave me some good ideas. Definetly sounds like fuel problems and my buddy confirmed old gas and bogging down on acceleration.

Here's to the guys that joined the Forum in March of 2001!!

Red sky at night is a mariners delight!
