Well i got the battery hooked up and the tilt and trim work with the button on the side of the motor. When i first hooked it up the trim up button worked on the remote controll but the down did not. This is a 1986 115ETLJ. So i put it back down with the the button on the side of the motor. Just checking everything out i turned the key a for a split second to make sure that the starter would engage and it did the first time i did it. I barely bumped it. Now that im starting to get water ready and what not, when i turn the key nothing. and the tilt up does not work from the controlls eather. Im kinda lost i know that i have the battery hooked up right and the controlls there is just 1 plug with like 10 pins. I know thats hooked up right. Im not sure where to go from here. I just barely tapped it before just to see if the starter would engage And it did but just that 1 time. Im charging the battery and going to try later. The tilt and trim still works off the button off of the side so it makes me think its not the battery. HELP!!!!

Going to have to pull the box apart and check the wiring. Sounds like you may have one or more bad switches in the control box.

Then if i did that should i use a voltage tester or something like that to see if current is making its way from inside the control box to the pin on the connection plug? I dont think that i worded that right but you get what i mean. I wish i had a control box to swap out to test it and see if it is the control box thats giving me the problem. Ill post my results tomorrow. Thanks for the troublehooting step.

Man you have way too many posts ... you need to relax dude, get yourself a manual and sit down calmly and work things out part by part, wire by wire .... here is a diagram courtesy of JUSTINTIME, to get you started .....

Wow thanks deejaycee_2000!! That helps more than you know. Sorry about the posts just trying to get as much info as i can. I got a Manual on the way. The manuels from yamaha are 60 bucks i got the clymer that is 2-250 hp and something like 1984-1988. Something like that. I think this is going to be a good runner when i get it going. Thanks fot the wiring diagram that will definately get me started. Thanks again!!!

Re: 115 wont turn over with controlls

I Just have to thank you guys as i got the motor started tonite!!!! I opened up the controlls and found a pinched wire and corrected it with 3 layers of shrink tubing. Honestly i wasnt trying to start the motor tonite but after i saw that it was on. The trim buttons both work now and i gotta say i feel real stupid. I was trying to start it for like 20 min without the safety lanyard hooked up. I knew that i had to hook that up when i got it i just for some reason was thinking about other things. Anyways it fired right up when i attached the lanyard. I like how strong the **** stream in and that it goes off to the side a little so that you can see it without leaning over the motor.

Re: 115 wont turn over with controlls

now i got to find out how to tell if the oil injection is working. I ran it with 50:1 gas that i have mixed for my 15 hp merc. I almost want to disable the oil injection because im going to be using 3- 6 gallon tanks and not a internal tank. But during the winter time im thinking about installing a larger tank under the floor so i might want to leave it in there. Im going to start another thread about the oil injection so this one can die a happy death since i got it running. THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Id never be this far without this forum!
