I recently purchased a 72 in line 6 mercury thunderbolt 1150. After a tune up and a couple of things here and there ,on my 4th take out I was cruising down the lake and the eng. just quit no loud noise or anything just quit. I tried to start but it was just crank over and backfire i checked the engine it was warm. What do you all think big or small prob.

Ditto in being careful with the distributor rotor button/shaft. It's more like $300.00 to replace the rotor (unbelievable!). Also, I would check the wiring harness plug into the motor and make sure it's not loose as I think that has made my 1500 abruptly stop on several occasions. It can work loose in turns just enough to kill the motor. Good luck!

Try the carbon button inside the cap. Don;t pull plugwires, they unscrew.

-W
