My motor had all the bolts that hold the two halves of the block together found were .loose I was able to tighten the bolts without removing the carbs and the other stuff attached to the block. Is there something that can be put on the bolt heads to stop them from backing out again? I know thread locker should be used but that would mean stripping down power head to remove bolts. I was able to use torque wrench to tighten bolts.

Ok most were loose in a sense that if you put a wrench on it you could turn the bolt with no effort, I torque the bolts down to what the spec were. Why they came loose is a mystery to me!

Quite a while back, a friend of mine complained that his 75 merc was running poorly. Removing the cover we found bolts loose at the junction of mid section and powerhead. No explanation. It was bought new and never worked on. We were stumped. Had to be a problem with the torque wrench at the factory. We torqued and not a problem since.
