ok what is better 12v or 24v minkota trolling motor does the auto pilot drain battery more than normal can someone tell me how to get 24 out of battery a drawing would be nice i have a guy selling me a 24 v minkota auto pilot with remote used only 5 times 55lb thrust 54inch shaft what do you think for 350$ quick disconnect plate comes with it to mount it looks really good looks new he paid 750 thanks for your help

You need two deep cycle batteries in order to get 24 volts. 12+12=24. How big is your boat?
I have seen quick disconnect plates selling for 80 bucks new in Bass Pro so I don't know why he has a $350 one.

To get 24volts you need two batteries, as rndn says. Connect the + pole of one (#1) to the - pole of the other (#2). Use the - pole of #1 and the + pole of #2 to feed the 24volts to the motor.

Yes, the Auto Pilot uses some power, but very little compared to the propulsion motor. Not to worry about. With 24volts you will get twice the battery life you would get with a 12volt version.

I recently sold a 12volt 55AP and quick disconnect plate, unused, for $400 and felt I gave it away.

If this is a 55# Power Drive, you likely have a 12V motor, not 24. I'm not going to check but you should. I don't think they made a 55# 24V. The 55's were the top of the 12V line. If it is indeed a 24V than it's more than 55# of thrust, you will need two batteries and the autopilot will likely draw a little more power because it is likely to be steering more often than you would with your foot. Make sure what you are buying and how old it is.
