120 force(mercury)

hopefully someone can help me out 120 force having a hard time steering this motor upon further investigation i found that the steering shaft is really coroded bad i need to remove this steering shaft any idea on how going about doing this ?

Oh Boy! That is not a fun job. I have done it a couple of times and it is difficult and aggravating.

The easiest way is to completely remove the yoke and front plate (I forget what it is called.) Then, you must drive down the kingpin out of the plate and through the swivel yoke. There are two plastic bushings which will have grabbed the kingpin and will make driving it out very difficult.

After removing the kingpin, either replace it with a 1 1/8 high strength solid aluminum bar or sand it down and sand the inside of the bushings. remove the corrosion from the inside of the swivel yoke casting. grease everything well.
