I have a 1986 120hp johnson that I had rebuilt several years ago. I ran one tank of gas B4 i was injured. I got it out recently and found that the lower unit had water and no oil in it. I drained it and filled with oil. Ran it in the lake for about 30 min. and drained the oil again. It had no water and some very light shavings. When you spin the shaft it makes lite noise. Question is do I need to replace the bearings, if so how do i remove the lower unit. Any help here will be greatly appreciated.

Re: 120 looper

run it till it gives out. keep checking oil, besure to replace the plug seals each time. they are only one time use, & #1 place for water intrusion, also replace the impeller, so you do not get stranded, running hot.

Re: 120 looper

the seals are BRP# 31598, Sierra # 18-4248

Dropping lower, you have disconnect shift rod under the carbs, for the port side. then remove all the bolts holding the lower unit, even the hidden, one under the trim tab.

DO NOT turn the shift rod!!!!! be sure, they water pump gormett does not get pinched when reinstalling.
